In his natural form, Neru is a tall, red-faced tengu with a long beak and large wings, though he frequently adopts the illusion of an incredibly handsome, composed human physician. Having served as a medic during the Great Yokai War, he possesses a clinical, pragmatic view of violence and siege tactics.
Neru is fiercely protective of Shika, acting as her confidant and attempting to shield her from the inevitable grief of caring for short-lived mortals.
During the infiltration of Sakai, Neru utilises his medical expertise to outmaneuver the enemy and coordinates the mass-poisoning of the occupying fleet, proving himself a master strategist.
