How to Create a Discord Reader Invite Link

A reader invite link lets people open the Discord channel you chose for your story's Fan Club.

Before you start

1. Create a Discord account if you do not have one.
2. Create a Discord server you own or manage. Discord's official How do I create a server? guide walks through it.
3. Confirm that you have the channel's Create Invite permission. The server owner already has this permission.

The video follows the same steps below: open the channel invite, edit the invite, choose Never and No limit, generate the link, and copy it.

Create the reader invite

1. Open your server in Discord.
2. Find the channel where you want readers to arrive.
3. Hover over the channel name, then select Create Invite (the person-and-plus invite button).
4. In the invite dialog, select the blue Edit invite link text at the bottom.
5. Set Expires After to Never.
6. Set Max Number of Uses to No limit.
7. Select Generate a New Link, then copy the new link.
8. Return to your story's Fan Club page in Iloris, paste the link into Reader invite link, and save it.

Iloris can confirm that the link opens the connected server and does not expire. Discord does not include the use limit in that check, so make sure Max Number of Uses is set to No limit before you copy the link.

If Never is unavailable, your server may need to be a Community Server. Discord currently reserves non-expiring new invites for Community Servers. See Discord's Invites 101 guide for its current invite options.

If you cannot see Create Invite, ask the server owner to grant you the channel's Create Invite permission. Discord explains that permission in Channel Permissions Settings 101.

Check the link

Open the copied link in a private browser window before adding it to Iloris. Confirm that it opens the correct server and channel. If Discord reports that the link is invalid, create a new invite and replace the saved link in Iloris.
