Pregnancy changed everything.
David became extremely protective.
“Don't carry that.”
“I can carry it.”
“I'll do it.”
“David.”
“What?”
“I'm pregnant, not made of glass.”
He laughed.
Marilyn continued working as a journalist.
David continued engineering projects.
But every evening, they talked to the baby.
“What do you think it will be?” David asked.
“I don't know.”
“What do you want?”
“A healthy child.”
David placed his hand on her stomach.
“I already love you.”
Marilyn smiled.
“You're talking to the baby?”
“Yes.”
“You're crazy.”
“Maybe.”
But deep inside, David was terrified.
He had spent his life afraid of losing the people he loved.
Now he had another person to love.
And that meant another person to fear losing.
