CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO — REAL LIFE

1 min readPublished Aug 20, 2026

Marriage was not like the movies.

There were bills.

There were disagreements.

There were long days at work.

There were mornings when neither of them wanted to get out of bed.

There were evenings when David came home exhausted and Marilyn was still working on an article.

One night, David entered the house.

“You're still working?”

Marilyn didn't look up.

“Deadline.”

“I thought we were having dinner together.”

“I know.”

“When?”

“I don't know, David.”

He became quiet.

“Okay.”

He walked away.

Marilyn finally looked up.

She knew something was wrong.

But she was tired too.

For the first time since their wedding, they went to bed without speaking.

The next morning, David left early.

Marilyn watched him go.

She remembered something she had once told him.

Don't let fear write our story.

But now she realized something else.

Sometimes it wasn't fear that could destroy a relationship.

Sometimes it was silence.
