Chapter 13 — Time for the Tournament
The smoke cleared slowly over the ruined, cratered expanse of the crucible, revealing the aftermath of a war fought in total isolation. Across the shattered white floor, the five champions lay scattered, their chests heaving, every muscle fiber screaming in protest. The air, which had hummed moments before with the devastating collision of primordial power and angelic fury, now hung thick with the heavy scent of ozone and cooling earth.
Yamoshi was the last to fall, his colossal energy finally exhausted after pushing his Primordial Ikari Super Saiyan God form to its absolute precipice.
For several long, agonizing heartbeats, nobody moved. The profound silence of the chamber rushed back in, broken only by the ragged breathing of the exhausted warriors.
Gohan was the first to push himself up onto his elbows. He winced, clutching a bruised shoulder, and looked over toward his father. A wave of profound awe washed away the pain as he stared at the spot where Goku had just pulled off the impossible.
"Father..." Gohan breathed out, a breathless laugh escaping his lips as he shook his head in sheer disbelief. "You actually did it... you managed to wear him down."
Goku rolled over onto his back, staring up at the hazy white sky of the chamber. A wide, exhausted, yet utterly triumphant grin stretched across his face. He let out a low, raspy chuckle, his body aching from head to toe. "Man... I thought for a second my arms were going to fly right off my shoulders. But... wow. That was some fight."
A few yards away, Vegeta spat a mouthful of dust and blood onto the stone. The Prince of All Saiyans dragged himself up into a sitting position, his dark eyes locked furiously onto his eternal rival. The magenta flames of Mastered Ultra Ego 3 were entirely gone, leaving him drained, bruised, and burning with a fierce, restless frustration.
"Kakarot..." Vegeta growled, his voice gravelly and tight with shock. "What in the hell was that just now? Don't tell me you actually—"
Before Vegeta could finish his demand, Goku cut him off with a weak, desperate groan, holding his stomach. "Ah man, I can't even feel my legs right now. Hey... does anyone have a Senzu bean? Tell me somebody brought a Senzu bean!"
Gohan instinctively slapped his hands down against his tattered pockets, his eyes widening in a sudden panic. "Wait, let me check—I think I have a pouch left from before we entered the chamber!"
He patted down his shredded scholarly slacks frantically until his fingers brushed against a small, leathery sack tied to his belt. Pulling it out with a sigh of immense relief, Gohan tipped the pouch over. Five emerald-green beans rolled out into his palm.
Without wasting a second, Gohan tossed the first bean to his father. Goku caught it with a clumsy swipe, popped it into his mouth, and crunched down immediately. The effect was instantaneous. A golden-white flash of healing ki erupted across Goku’s frame, instantly knitting his torn flesh, sealing his cuts, and flooding his body with a massive, roaring tide of recovered stamina. Goku leaped straight to his feet, stretching his arms with a bright grin. "Oh yeah! Good as new!"
Gohan quickly tossed the remaining beans to Vegeta, Jiren, and finally, to the ancient warrior lying flat on his back a few paces away.
Yamoshi caught the small green bean with a slow, deliberate movement of his hand. He sat up, studying the odd little object for a second before placing it in his mouth and chewing. Instantly, the ancient scars of the battle vanished. His breathing steadied, his posture straightened, and the terrifying, heavy density of his Primordial Ki settled back into a calm, controlled hum.
As Yamoshi rose gracefully to his feet, Gohan instinctively tensed, taking a half-step backward. Deep down, a cold spike of anxiety pierced his chest. What if he wants to attack again? What if that battle-hungry rage takes over him again?
Seeing the apprehension in the hybrid Saiyan's eyes, Yamoshi raised a hand, stopping mid-motion. The predatory gleam in his metallic-gold eyes had completely dissolved, replaced once more by the serene, ancient wisdom that had defined him when they first met.
"Relax, young one," Yamoshi said softly, his voice carrying a calm, reassuring resonance. "I am no longer consumed by it."
Gohan blinked, letting out a cautious breath. "You... you aren't going to attack us again?"
"No," Yamoshi replied, offering a faint, understanding smile. He looked down at his own hands, curling them slowly into fists as if testing the memory of the rage that had just possessed him. "That form... the Primordial Ikari state... it carries a heavy burden. It taps directly into the primal, untamed fury of our ancient bloodline. When a Saiyan pushes past every known limit, the beast within awakens. It makes us terrifying, hungry for destruction and eternal battle, losing all sight of reason."
He looked across the circle of warriors, meeting Goku's and Vegeta's eyes with a look of profound respect. "But a true warrior does not let the beast master him. He masters the beast. The battle is over, and my mind has cleared."
All remaining tension in the chamber evaporated instantly. Vegeta scoffed, crossing his arms with a haughty turn of his head, though the sharp edge of hostility in his gaze was entirely gone. "Hmph. Just see that you keep it under control next time, ancient one. We have enough problems without fighting our own allies."
Goku laughed loudly, scratching the back of his head. "Well, hey! If you ask me, that wild side of yours made the training a whole lot more interesting!"
Jiren simply gave a slow, deliberate nod, folding his arms over his chest once more. "The lesson is learned. Our focus must now turn outward."
With everything resolved, the five warriors stepped away from the ruined center of the crucible and toward the massive, heavy stone threshold where their journey had begun. They were fundamentally different men from the ones who had first walked through those doors years ago. Their auras were denser, their minds sharper, and their bonds forged in the fires of an unyielding crucible.
As they reached the threshold, the stone doors groaned open on their own, revealing the towering silhouette of Zalama waiting in the infinite white expanse beyond.
The colossal Dragon God looked down upon them, his massive amber eyes sweeping over each of the five champions. For the first time, a rare, approving smile touched the edges of Zalama's eternal face.
"You have endured the forge," Zalama’s voice echoed like rolling thunder, shaking the very ground beneath their boots. "You entered as five separate anomalies, torn from different worlds and timelines. You leave as a singular shield against the dark."
Goku stepped forward, clenching his fist with quiet confidence. "We're ready."
"Good," Zalama said, raising a single, massive hand. "Because your training is finished. The time for waiting has come to an end."
The golden magic began to coil around Zalama’s long fingers, thick and rich as molten honey. The light flared blindingly bright, casting long, writhing shadows against the white expanse.
"Prepare yourselves," Zalama commanded softly. "The Elder God Tournament awaits."
Before any of them could speak, the golden light shattered like glass. The fragments didn't fall; they dissolved into a roaring vortex of violet and gold, swallowing the five warriors whole in a blinding flash of displaced space.
When the light finally faded, the crucible was gone.
In its place stood a vast, incomprehensible realm of spinning galaxies and towering, obsidian arches that stretched endlessly into a bruised-violet sky. They had arrived. And far across the cosmic horizon, the true horrors of the multiverse were already watching.
