Chapter 14 — The Domain of an Elder God
The violent roar of the violet-and-gold vortex evaporated as quickly as it had torn open, leaving behind an absolute, heavy silence that pressed down on the chests of the five champions. The blinding flash subsided, and as their boots touched the ground, the familiar, sterile white expanse of the crucible vanished entirely, replaced by a landscape so profoundly alien yet strangely organic that it defied every rule of universal physics they had ever known.
They stood upon a wide, moss-covered shoreline of dark, iridescent stone that stretched outward into a body of water unlike any sea in the mortal or divine realms. The liquid before them was not water at all, but a shimmering, fluid starlight—deep sapphire waves rolling gently against the shore, glowing with the luminescence of a billion trapped nebulae. Beyond the coast, colossal, ancient trees twisted toward the sky, their bark shimmering like polished obsidian and their leaves dripping with a soft, silver dew that hummed with a strange, hypnotic vibration.
Goku inhaled deeply, his eyes widening in sudden, sharp astonishment. He instinctively clutched at his chest, his breath catching in his throat.
"Whoa..." Goku muttered, his voice barely a whisper. "What is this air? It’s... it's heavy."
Beside him, Vegeta dropped into a low, defensive crouch, his teeth gritted as he tried to expand his aura. The attempt failed miserably; the heavy, dense atmosphere instantly crushed the magenta flames back into his skin, leaving him sweating and visibly strained. The Prince of All Saiyans stared at his trembling hands in sheer disbelief.
"It’s not just heavy," Vegeta hissed through clenched teeth, his dark eyes darting across the surreal landscape. "This ki... it doesn't feel like anything we've ever encountered. It makes Beerus's divine energy feel like a gentle breeze. This is completely beyond the comprehension of standard god ki... it’s suffocating."
Gohan stepped closer to his father, his knees trembling slightly under the sheer weight of the ambient pressure radiating from the trees, the water, and the very ground beneath them. Even Jiren, whose stoic composure had remained unshakeable through the worst trials of the crucible, narrowed his eyes, a bead of cold sweat rolling down his cheek as he tried to read the power signature of the realm. It was an infinite, formless ocean of energy that defied quantification.
"You are feeling the true baseline of cosmic creation," a deep, rolling voice echoed from behind them.
The five warriors turned to see Zalama standing tall upon the obsidian shore, his massive golden form towering over the surreal landscape. The Dragon God’s eternal amber eyes were fixed calmly on the shimmering starlight sea before them.
"Zalama," Yamoshi spoke up, his deep, resonant voice cutting through the heavy tension of the domain. The ancient Saiyan stepped forward, his eyes scanning the horizon with cautious vigilance. "You brought us here. Explain where we stand. Whose realm is this?"
Zalama’s expression remained solemn, a rare hint of solemn reverence touching his massive features. "You stand within a pocket domain carved out of the primordial void. This is not a realm created by a mere God of Destruction or an Angel. This belongs to one of the ancient architects of the multiverse."
Goku blinked, stepping past Vegeta with his trademark curiosity instantly overriding his caution. "An architect? You mean there are beings even older than the Grand Priest? Older than the Angels?"
"Far older," Zalama replied, his voice rumbling like distant thunder across the starlight waves. "Long before universes were cataloged, before the divine hierarchy of Gods and Kais was ever established, the Elder Gods shaped the raw fabric of reality. They do not govern; they endure. And you are standing in the personal domain of Elder God Posaiden."
At the mention of the name, a collective chill swept through the group. Vegeta's jaw tightened. Yamoshi’s metallic-gold eyes narrowed into fierce slits.
"Posaiden," Yamoshi repeated, testing the name on his tongue as if tasting venom. "The master of the deep abysses... the entity whispered about only in the darkest, forgotten myths of the primal era. Why are we here? To offer ourselves as sacrifices?"
"Not sacrifices," Zalama said, turning his colossal gaze toward the five champions, his expression unreadable. "To be judged. The tournament you are destined to fight in is not a mortal sport. It is a war for the survival of reality against forces that even the Omni-King watches with caution. To stand against them, you must first survive the gaze of an Elder God."
"Well, where is he?" Goku asked, his fists clenching as a thrill of manic anticipation cut through the oppressive tension. He scanned the obsidian treeline and the glowing sapphire sea, his senses stretched to their absolute limit. "If he wants to judge us, he can come right out and show us what he's got!"
"Quiet, Kakarot!" Vegeta snapped, though his own eyes were darting frantically across the horizon. "You don't summon an Elder God like he's some back-alley challenger!"
"He is already here," Zalama whispered.
Instantly, the temperature in the domain plummeted from warm, humid twilight to a bone-chilling, absolute zero. The gentle, rolling starlight waves of the sea abruptly stopped, freezing mid-motion into jagged peaks of sparkling glass. The silver dew dripping from the obsidian trees hung suspended in the air, trembling violently.
The heavy ki that had been suffocating them moments before suddenly vanished, replaced by a vacuum so absolute, so terrifyingly empty, that it felt as though the oxygen had been ripped entirely from their lungs.
Gohan gasped, clutching at his throat as a crushing weight—not of physical pressure, but of sheer, unadulterated dread—descended upon the shore. Every survival instinct wired into their Saiyan and mortal DNA screamed at them to turn, to run, to close their eyes and pray.
Out across the frozen starlight sea, the surface of the water began to bubble and churn. A pair of colossal, glowing abyssal-blue eyes—each the size of a mountain range—slowly opened beneath the liquid starlight, casting a haunting, ethereal glow over the dark shoreline.
The air tore open with a sound like shattering glass. Slowly, silently, an unknown being rose from the depths of the frozen sea, towering over Zalama himself, its form shifting between liquid shadow and ancient, primordial stone.
The tension in the domain snapped like a taut wire. The trial had begun.
