CHAPTER 8: THE WEIGHT OF ANCIENT GODS
The white expanse of the crucible didn't just tremble; it shattered into an endless loop of spatial tears.
Gohan watched from the distant edge, his breath catching in his throat as the air pressure buckled beneath him. Beside him, Jiren's arms remained tightly folded, though his pupils had contracted to pinpricks. The sheer violence radiating from the center of the arena was not merely physical; it was a conceptual assault on reality itself.
"They've bypassed mortal limits entirely," Gohan murmured, his voice tight with a mixture of awe and dread. "Dad and Vegeta are utilizing absolute mastery... but look at Yamoshi."
Jiren didn't blink. "He isn't just matching them. He is anchoring them."
In the center of the storm, the battle erupted without a warning bell.
Vegeta vanished first. There was no sound of a sonic boom—space simply ruptured where he had stood. In the next nanosecond, he materialized directly above Yamoshi, his long, ink-black spikes of hair whipping wildly as he drove a heel coated in hyper-compressed magenta destruction ki straight downward.
“Hakai-infused flash kick!”
The strike carried enough raw kinetic ruin to vaporize a quadrant of galaxies. Yet, before the blow could connect, Yamoshi’s metallic gold eyes shifted. He didn’t dodge. He simply raised a single, bare forearm wrapped in swirling crimson and gold Primordial Ki.
BOOM!
The collision created a blinding shockwave of violet and scarlet fire that flattened the white ground for miles. Vegeta’s eyes widened in genuine disbelief. His heel felt as though it had smashed against the unyielding core of a dying star. The destruction energy shrieked, trying to tear away Yamoshi's flesh, but the ancient god’s aura merely flared, swallowing the Hakai whole.
"Is that the extent of a Destroyer's ego?" Yamoshi mocked smoothly, a sharp grin touching his lips.
Vegeta bared his teeth, veins bulging across his temples in Mastered Ultra Ego 3. "Don't flatter yourself, old man!"
Before Vegeta could recoil, Goku materialized on Yamoshi’s blind spot, moving with the terrifying, zero-thought precision of Mastered Ultra Instinct 3. His silver-white hair cascaded like liquid starlight as he threw a lightning-fast palm strike aimed squarely at Yamoshi's ribs—a technique designed to bypass defense entirely by reacting to the opponent's muscular shift.
Yamoshi’s smirk didn't fade. Without looking, his body swayed a microscopic fraction of a millimeter to the left. Goku's palm cut through empty air, the sheer displacement of wind slicing a clean chasm into the floor below.
Goku’s silver eyes flickered with a rare flash of shock. He dodged it... not by reacting, but by anticipating my flow before I even executed it?!
"Your body moves without thought, Son Goku," Yamoshi whispered, suddenly appearing right before Goku’s face, his metallic gold irises blazing. "Praise-worthy. But thoughtless movement is predictable to one who has watched the universe breathe."
Yamoshi unleashed a devastating point-blank blast of Primordial Ki.
The point-blank explosion swallowed Goku whole, driving him backward at lightspeed. Seeing his rival caught, Vegeta roared, abandoning defensive posture as he rained down a fury of wild, unhinged punches, each strike backed by the raw, bloodthirsty joy of battle.
"Take this! And this!" Vegeta screamed, his magenta fists blurring into a wall of absolute destruction.
Yamoshi spun into the onslaught, his crimson-and-gold aura shifting into a shield of dancing light. Clang! Clang! Clang! Every punch Vegeta threw was met with an open palm or a forearm block, the sheer force of the parries generating shockwaves that rattled the teeth of Gohan and Jiren from hundreds of meters away.
"Your pride is fierce, Prince," Yamoshi countered, ducking under a vicious right hook and delivering a swift, palm-heel strike straight to Vegeta's sternum.
The impact knocked the wind entirely out of Vegeta’s lungs, a spray of golden ki-infused sweat erupting from his back. Mastered Ultra Ego 3 flickered violently under the stress. Vegeta stumbled backward, clutching his chest, coughing sharply as his breath hitched.
"Vegeta!" Goku shouted, slicing through the smoke in his Mastered Ultra Instinct 3 state. Recovering instantly from the blast, Goku dropped low and swept his leg out in a low arc, attempting to trip the ancient god.
Yamoshi leaped lightly over the sweep, but Goku anticipated the jump, spinning upward with an elbow strike lined with silver-white angelic radiance.
Bang!
The elbow connected squarely with Yamoshi’s jaw, forcing the ancient god's head to snap to the side for the very first time. A low grunt escaped Yamoshi's lips.
"Got you!" Goku yelled, pressing the advantage, his silver form shifting into a dozen afterimages as he delivered a relentless flurry of kicks and punches from every conceivable angle.
Far back in the observation area, Gohan gripped the edge of his composure, his knuckles turning white. "He's landing hits... Dad is actually pushing him back!"
Jiren shook his head slowly, his expression grim. "Look closer. He isn't pushing him back. He's expending energy to force a reaction."
True to Jiren's words, Yamoshi suddenly stopped moving. He didn't try to block Goku's final, devastating hammer-fist descending from above. Instead, his crimson-and-gold aura flared with a blinding, deafening brilliance.
“Primordial Burst!”
A dome of absolute, pre-universal energy exploded outward from Yamoshi's core. The sheer density of the shockwave caught Goku dead-center. The angelic silver aura around Goku shattered like glass, the violent feedback tearing him out of his Mastered Ultra Instinct 3 state in a flash of de-transformation.
"Goku!" Gohan cried out, taking a half-step forward.
Goku plummeted heavily to the ground, kicking up a massive crater of white dust, gasping for breath as he clutched his torso.
Vegeta, recovering his breath, saw his opening. Fueled by sheer rage and the relentless drive of the Saiyan Prince, his magenta aura flared violently once more. "You arrogant bastard!" he roared, thrusting both hands forward. “Final Explosion—Maximum Destruction!”
A pillar of pure, pitch-black and magenta destruction ki engulfed Yamoshi entirely, obliterating the ground beneath them into nothingness. The light was blinding, painting the entire white chamber in a violent, bruised twilight.
Vegeta stood panting heavily, sweat pouring down his face, his Mastered Ultra Ego 3 form straining at the absolute seams of his endurance. "Did... did that finish him?" he rasped through gritted teeth.
The smoke slowly cleared.
Yamoshi stood at the center of the crater. His clothing was slightly singed, and a single drop of blood trickled down his cheek from the blow Goku had landed, but his Primordial Ikari Super Saiyan God aura was burning brighter than ever. He didn't look exhausted. He looked exhilarated.
"Magnificent," Yamoshi whispered, wiping the drop of blood with his thumb and staring at it with intense fascination. "Destruction that tears at the soul, and instinct that dances with the heavens. You two have truly forged something terrifying."
Vegeta stared in open shock, his jaw dropping fractionally. Not even a scratch... after a full-power destruction blast?!
Goku rolled over onto his back in the distance, letting out a breathless, exhausted laugh as he stared up at the blank white ceiling. "Man... talk about a wall. We threw everything we had at him..."
Yamoshi lowered his hands, the pressure around him receding just enough for the atmosphere to normalize, though the tension remained razor-sharp. He looked across the broken battlefield toward Gohan and Jiren, who were still standing at attention.
"Your allies watch closely," Yamoshi called out, his voice echoing cleanly across the expanse. "And the time for our rehearsal is at an end."
He turned his gaze back to Goku and Vegeta, who were slowly pushing themselves back to their feet.
"You have proven yourselves worthy of stepping onto the multiversal stage," Yamoshi concluded, a respectful, fierce smile gracing his ancient features. "The Elder God Tournament will test every fiber of your being. But remember this—if you wish to conquer what waits beyond, you must become far greater than what you are today."
The battle had ended, but the true war was only just beginning.
