"Hm…"
Yuma frowned as he tried to open his heavy eyes.
His head throbbed. His body felt sluggish, and the hot breath leaving his lips made it obvious his fever had already become severe.
"Go back to sleep, Master."
Through his blurry vision, he could see the silhouette of a black-haired man touching his forehead.
"…Kazuki?"
"Yes. Why didn't you tell me you were sick?"
"…it's fine."
In the end, once I die… this body will return to normal anyway.
Yuma swallowed those words and gave a faint smile.
"Ck."
The click of Kazuki's tongue was loud enough for him to hear on purpose.
After that, silence filled the room again as the man continued checking his temperature.
"Master."
"You should rest."
They spoke at the same time.
Trying to focus his blurred vision, Yuma smiled weakly.
"What is it?"
He saw Kazuki lower his head.
The man held Yuma's hand tightly, keeping his head bowed as though praying.
"I will always stay by your side."
"…"
The voice was quiet, like someone sharing a secret.
"Even if this world forgets you, even if people stop seeing you, and even if no one can remember… I will always be here."
Yuma could feel the trembling in the hand holding his.
"So could you slow down a little? It's okay to cry, scream, or throw a tantrum…"
"…"
"I will never leave you alone, so please—"
Now even Kazuki's voice trembled.
"Please take care of yourself. Never get sick, and never get hurt."
"…"
"I'll stay with you forever and never leave you, so let's take our time… alright?"
Yuma blinked slowly.
As his surroundings grew blurrier, he closed his eyes.
He gave no answer, even when the grip around his hand tightened further.

Yuma opened his eyes.
Sitting quietly, he remained still without a sound.
—Drip. Drip.
Watching the water falling onto his hand, Yuma blinked blankly with a calm expression.
"…liar."
The voice sounded hollow, almost like the absent-minded murmur of someone half awake.
"…liar."
Yuma blinked his stinging eyes, then began preparing himself.
No matter what happened—
…he could not stop moving.
Because only by doing that could he continue surviving.
"…what exactly happened here?"
Noel gritted his teeth as he stared at a purple-haired teenager walking around naked inside Mylo's dorm room.
"Oh, Noel!"
"Hey hey~"
The boy didn't even blink and continued unpacking his suitcase after giving a greeting that barely counted as one.
"…damn it, I forgot my favorite underwear."
"Favorite?"
"Yeah. The leopard-print one."
Hearing the conversation, Noel finally lost his patience and grabbed a towel from the bathroom.
He wrapped the shameless idiot in it carelessly before throwing him onto the bed.
"Waaah!! I can't breathe!!"
"Kai! "
"Let's go."
"Wait, let's go together with Kai. My roommate is— Noel!"
"I'll request a dorm transfer for you."
"Oh, come on, why? Kai's fun to talk to!"
"That thing?"
"Hey! That's rude."
The teenager named Kai wriggled around while putting his clothes on with small complaints.
"Someone walking around naked is talking about manners?"
"What's wrong with being naked? I have the same things you do."
Kai buttoned his shirt while clicking his tongue.
"Even so, basic common sense says you should wear clothes and maintain minimum decency when you don't live alone."
"Oh, come on. You guys are too uptight."
A vein immediately popped on Noel's forehead.
He felt like he would lose his mind if he kept arguing with that strange person.
And even worse, the room was so messy it made his entire body restless.
He wanted to curse.
Grinding his teeth, Noel stepped inside and began cleaning the room with frightening efficiency.
Throwing away snack wrappers, stuffing dirty clothes into a basket, folding clean laundry, even opening the window neither of them had touched.
"Wow, he's like a mother. This reminds me of when my mom entered my room and turned into a tiger."
"Right? I told you," Mylo said proudly.
Ignoring them both, Noel continued cleaning until the room became so neat it looked almost untouched.
"Perfect. Ah, but my pants don't belong there. Over there— ahem. Never mind."
Kai instantly looked away when Noel stared at him with murderous eyes.
"Let's go. We're almost late, Mylo."
"Yeah! Let's go, Kai."
The three of them walked side by side.
Then Mylo clapped his hands when he saw students around them introducing themselves.
"I forgot to introduce you two! Kai, this is my childhood friend, Noel Riggs Kaysen."
Noel gave a small nod in greeting.
"Noel, this is my roommate, Kaiser Alessio Hamilton."
Kai grinned.
"Just call me Kai. Makes us closer."
Noel frowned. His gaze looked downright rude, as though staring at trash.
"…woah, I'm offended."
"You're a noble?"
"Hm? What about it?"
"What rank is your family?"
Kai answered uncertainly.
"Duke?"
"…"
If Noel's earlier look had merely been like staring at trash, now it looked more like he was staring at something disgusting.
"…?"
Kai dramatically clutched his chest.
"What kind of look is that? My heart hurts. How can you look at me so cruelly?"
Noel kept a flat expression while observing the piercings, the tattoo on Kai's neck, and the two shirt buttons left open.
Then he slowly shook his head.
"Hey! That's because I'm the youngest son! What's wrong with relaxing when my father and older brother already make tons of money?!"
Noel ignored him and continued walking ahead.
Meanwhile, Kai threw an arm around Mylo while grumbling.
"What's with him…? You understand me too, right, Mylo? You're also the youngest. What's wrong with doing whatever we want and enjoying freedom?"
Mylo smiled brightly.
"No."
"…"
"Even if my parents and older sister spoil me, it's still my duty to protect my family's name and behave properly."
"…."
Kai immediately let go of him and started buttoning his shirt neatly.
Chuckling in amusement, Mylo hummed softly.
Then, as if remembering something, he smiled even brighter.
"What are you thinking about?"
"Ah, right. Now that I think about it, our lineup is complete, isn't it?"
"What lineup?"
"I'm support, Noel's sword, you're ranged, and Yuma's a guardian. Isn't that perfect? I heard the academy recommends forming stable groups for teamwork."
"Guardian? I thought the proper setup included a healer?"
"But if the guardian protects properly, wouldn't no one get hurt in the first place?"
Kai tilted his head.
"You've never seen guardians before? In my kingdom, they usually protect healers and supports. That's why healers are still necessary."
"Ah… really?"
"Yeah."
"…I thought they weren't needed… I once watched Sister Diana training, and the guardians there protected even the sword and bow users. Oh, my sister's from the sword squad of the main forces."
Kai's eyes widened.
"Seriously?"
"Yeah. During training, the guardians covered everyone with shields."
"Hm…"
Kai rubbed his chin.
"Then maybe they do that to prevent serious injuries. Like first aid. So if one shield breaks, someone else can take over or join that person in defeating the enemy."
Mylo's eyes sparkled.
"And if someone gets hurt, the injuries won't be severe, so they can retreat temporarily for treatment or purification…"
Kai fell silent while staring at Mylo.
The boy's eyes were shining so brightly, and Kai hated people like this the most because they usually started asking endless questions.
But before he could speak, Mylo beat him to it.
His face flushed red with admiration.
"As expected of the main forces… how can they think that far ahead? Their commander is amazing, strong, kind, and considerate…"
"You're a fan?"
"Of course! Who here doesn't know that commander? Ask anyone and ninety percent of people will scream that they're a fan! My sister even told me the commander's office is always overflowing with gifts… But you're pretty smart too, Kai. You understood the commander's intentions."
"…what exactly do you think I am? I'm considered a genius in my group, you know."
Pointless.
Mylo didn't hear the mutter at all and continued sinking into his own imagination.
"Watch out."
Noel frowned and grabbed Mylo's hand.
There was a staircase in front of them.
"How many times have I told you to watch where you're walking?"
"…yeah…"
Noel also looked at Kai.
"You too. Watch the road and stop daydreaming."
"…alright, Mom."
Noel wanted to snap back, but after realizing the argument would never end, he simply sighed and continued walking.
"But Kai."
"…what?"
"So you think we should look for a healer?"
"Probably. I heard groups here consist of five people. Some groups from previous generations even had two sword users or two ranged users just to fill the quota."
"You researched this?"
"Of course. Honestly, I thought I'd just leave it to the system and end up in a random group if nobody caught my interest."
"So you want to join us?"
"Sure, but there's no guarantee we'll end up together. I heard there were cases where members got swapped around. I don't know how they organize things, but apparently the academy's recommended groups usually work better."
"Yeah… true."
"But you should still request it. Maybe it'll work?"
"Alright!"
Mylo clenched his fists enthusiastically.
Kai smiled faintly at the sight.
Maybe supports really did have naturally gentle auras, because it felt pleasant being around Mylo.
"Ah, we're already at the garden."
"This is where you arranged to meet your other friend?"
"…we didn't really arrange anything…"
"…."
"…but everyone usually gathers here… so Yuma should be around…?"
Kai suddenly had to reconsider whether Mylo was pleasant or simply exhausting.
"Mylo."
"Yeah?"
Mylo turned toward Noel, who pointed somewhere ahead.
"There's Yuma. Let's go."
"Right! Yuma!!"
Kai looked in the same direction.
There stood a blue-haired boy with red-gold eyes.
The moment he heard Mylo's voice, the boy smiled softly.
It felt as though every trace of contamination in Kai's body disappeared along with it.
And it wasn't just his imagination.
Quite a lot of people had gathered around the boy, clearly drawn in by the calming aura radiating from him.
That child definitely belonged to the support-type group.
As Kai stepped closer and felt that soothing warmth, he was about to speak—
"This is the Yuma I told you about, Kai! Guardian-type, Yuma Soren Cody. Yuma, this is my new roommate, Kaiser Alessio Hamilton!"
"Hello, Kaiser."
Seeing that gentle smile, Kai could only blurt out stupidly,
"You… aren't a support-type?"
As if the question was strange, Yuma tilted his head in confusion.
"I'm a guardian. If I were support-type, your contamination would decrease."
Only then did Kai realize the warmth came solely from Yuma's aura. There was no purification power leaking from him at all.
It merely felt like a placebo effect.
"Guardians belong to the gentle-type group, like healers and purifiers, so it's normal for their aura to feel similar."
"…"
Hearing Noel's explanation, Kai finally understood.
Even so, it still felt far too comfortable—comfortable enough to make him want to roll around on the ground.
Even if it was only a placebo effect, he still wanted to rub his cheek against Yuma's.
Looking around, he could see several girls blushing deeply, as though they wanted to pounce on him or confess immediately.
When Kai looked back at Yuma, the boy blinked slowly.
And the aura around him began fading.
"?"
"Better?"
"No… how is that possible?"
Kai grew even more confused.
The aura truly had changed—from feeling like soaking in hot water to merely holding a warm towel.
But how?
Sensing his confusion, Yuma explained calmly,
"Just like the killing intent from offensive-types, we can reduce the effect of our power."
Mylo nodded eagerly.
"Yeah, I learned that when I was little too… but I'm the type who has trouble releasing it…"
"It's alright. Everyone has their own way of using their power."
"It's a shame Yuma isn't a purifier… If you were, you'd probably be able to purify people from a distance…"
"There are purifiers capable of releasing their power outward, but their original purification strength tends to be weak. So it isn't necessarily an advantage or disadvantage."
Mylo nodded again and stared at Yuma intensely.
Already knowing what would happen next, Noel immediately dragged Mylo away before the boy could hug Yuma.
"Stop."
"I can't help it… Yuma has this aura that makes people want to take care of him…"
Mylo grumbled while standing beside Noel.
Yuma laughed softly.
"We're almost late. Let's go."
"Yeah!"
"Yes."
"O-oh."
But Kai thought—
Mylo was absolutely right.
Being near Yuma made him want to take care of him.
Even now—
…Kai genuinely wanted to go home and scream at his parents to give him a younger sibling.
Wouldn't that be adorable?
He seriously wanted to force his parents to make a cute little baby.
The way Kai stared at Yuma felt dangerously intense—
as though he wanted to carry him home right then and there.
