CHAPTER 5: THE RETURN OF THE FIVE WARRIORS
Time lost its meaning outside the pale boundaries of the world, but inside Zalama's crucible, a single day stretched across the forge of years.
Centuries bled together into an endless blur of shattering stone, screaming pressure, and blinding light. The chamber bore witness to a silent war fought in total isolation—no spectators, no applause, and no mercy. Just five souls tearing down the architecture of their own limits and rebuilding themselves from the ash up.
And now, after years of relentless, unyielding torment, the threshold shuddered.
The vast training grounds lay completely still, holding their breath.
Then—BOOM.
A concussive shockwave tore across the white floor, rolling outward like a physical wall of force.
Goku emerged first. His boots scraped across the dust as he slowly lifted his head. His breathing was frighteningly even, but his eyes carried a profound, tectonic shift. The careless wonder that had defined him for a lifetime was gone, replaced by the heavy, razor-sharp gaze of a seasoned sentinel.
He looked out over the endless expanse.
"Man... it's been a long time."
He clenched his fist. A faint, cerulean current of pure energy flickered across his skin before reabsorbing silently into his frame. "I wonder how strong everyone else got."
A second presence rippled through the air, heavy and suffocating.
Vegeta stepped out from the distance. His posture had completely transformed—no longer taut with frantic insecurity, but anchored by an absolute, terrifying gravity. He stood tall, arms crossed, locking his dark gaze onto his eternal rival.
A sharp, predatory smirk pulled at the corner of his mouth. "Still thinking about everyone else, Kakarot?"
Goku spun around, his eyes widening in spite of himself. "Vegeta!"
The prince closed the distance, his footsteps falling with rhythmic precision. "You haven't changed."
Goku grinned, a familiar warmth returning to his chest. "Can't say the same about you."
Vegeta stopped a few paces away. For a long, lingering moment, neither spoke. The atmosphere between them grew uncomfortably dense, bending under the weight of an invisible scale. Goku didn't need to read a power level; he could feel it. Vegeta's ki wasn't merely larger—it had been hammered, folded, and quenched into something fundamentally lethal.
"You've gotten stronger," Goku murmured.
Vegeta’s smirk widened into a hard grin. "Stronger?" He let out a low, humorless chuckle. "Kakarot, after spending years training alone, I didn't come back here just to become a little stronger."
He dropped his arms to his sides. "I came back because I intend to prove that all that time was worth something."
Goku's grin turned feral. "Then I guess we're thinking the same thing."
"Don't get ahead of yourself."
Suddenly, a third presence severed the tension.
Goku and Vegeta snapped their heads around as Yamoshi materialized from the haze. His stride was effortless, yet every step seemed to depress the fabric of space itself, carrying the suffocating majesty of a primordial god.
Both Saiyans instinctively hardened.
Yamoshi stopped a few meters away, his ancient eyes sweeping over them. "So... you two finally returned."
Goku's face lit up. "Yamoshi! It's good to see you again!"
The ancient warrior offered a faint, respectful smile. "It has been a long time."
Vegeta crossed his arms, his eyes narrowing to slits. "You seem awfully calm."
Yamoshi met his challenging gaze. "Should I be worried?"
Vegeta's eyebrow twitched.
Goku burst into a loud, ringing laugh. "Haha! You really haven't changed!"
Yamoshi's expression instantly flattened into stone. "Actually, I have."
The laughter died in Goku's throat. Vegeta's stance stiffened.
"The warrior who entered that training chamber years ago," Yamoshi continued, his voice echoing with dual resonance, "is not the same warrior standing before you."
A heavy, suffocating silence fell over them. Goku stared at the ancient Saiyan, moving past the superficial layers of ki to study the core of his being. For the first time, he wasn't just sensing power—he was looking into an abyss.
"Yeah..." Goku breathed, a slow, electric smile creeping back onto his face. "I can feel it."
Vegeta scoffed, stepping forward. "Then stop talking. Let's see it."
Yamoshi didn't blink. "You wish to fight already?"
"Why else would we gather?"
Goku threw his hands up, stepping directly between them. "Whoa, whoa! We literally just got back!"
Vegeta shot him a lethal glare. "And?"
"And we haven't even found Gohan and Jiren yet!"
Yamoshi turned his gaze toward the distant, jagged horizon of the chamber. "They are still training."
Vegeta frowned, his jaw tightening. "Still?"
Goku blinked in astonishment. "After all these years?"
Yamoshi nodded slowly. "They never stopped."
Far away from the reunion, trapped in a remote crater scarred by countless impacts, another world existed in absolute silence.
Gohan stood dead center in the depression, his gi shredded into tactical rags from years of unimaginable friction. His hair ruffled softly in the phantom wind, and his eyes burned with a terrifying, unblinking focus.
Across from him, Jiren stood like a statue carved from bedrock.
Neither spoke. They didn't need to. The years had stripped away all excess movement, leaving behind two absolute peaks of disciplined violence. Jiren's mere presence warped the air around him, a heavy, scarlet distortion of pure unyielding will.
Gohan slowly wiped a smear of dust from his shoulder, his voice cutting through the quiet. "Jiren..."
Jiren's eyes cracked open, glowing with a dull, fierce fire. "What?"
Gohan offered a tired, genuine smile. "Do you realize how long we've been doing this?"
Jiren looked up at the empty white sky. "Long enough."
Gohan let out a quiet, dry laugh. "That's all you have to say?"
"What more needs to be said?"
Gohan's features hardened, the shadows deepening across his face. He stepped forward. "A lot. When we started, I thought I understood what strength meant."
Jiren listened, unmoving.
"I thought reaching my limits meant breaking through them once," Gohan whispered, clenching his fists until his knuckles turned translucent. "But every time I thought I'd reached the top, another wall appeared. A heavier one. A darker one."
Jiren gave a slow, measured nod. "That is the nature of strength."
"And you?" Gohan stared deep into the Pride Trooper's eyes. "Did you find your limit?"
Jiren's expression grew glacial. "No."
A violent, invisible pressure suddenly detonated outward from Jiren's core, spiderwebbing the solid stone beneath his boots into fine powder.
"Because I stopped believing I had one."
Gohan's eyes flared wide for a fraction of a second. Then, a fierce, razor-sharp grin broke across his face. "That's exactly what you're supposed to say."
The two warriors held their positions for a final, heartbeat-stopping moment. Then Gohan glanced toward the distant horizon, sensing three colossal signatures converging.
"They're waiting for us."
Jiren turned on his heel. "Then we should go."
Back at the gathering point, Goku, Vegeta, and Yamoshi stood waiting.
Goku suddenly jerked his head toward the distance, a spark of excitement lighting up his eyes. "They're coming."
Vegeta smirked, his aura sparking with a violent violet flash. "Finally."
Moments later, a pair of distortions tore through the air as Gohan and Jiren materialized alongside them.
The five warriors stood united once more.
For several seconds, the world stopped turning. No one spoke. They simply looked at one another, measuring the invisible weight each man carried.
Five warriors.
Five entirely different paths.
Five distinct gods of their own making.
Gohan looked around the circle, letting out a long breath. "So... this is it."
Goku smiled, folding his arms behind his head. "We're finally all back together."
Jiren’s gaze drifted slowly across each of his comrades. "You have all changed."
Vegeta let out a sharp, arrogant breath. "As have you."
Yamoshi stepped forward, his expression grave and unreadable. "Then there is only one question."
Goku tilted his head, his curiosity piqued. "What's that?"
Yamoshi locked eyes with all four of them. "Who among us became the strongest?"
Silence slammed down like an anvil.
Goku's eyes widened. Vegeta's smirk vanished entirely, his face freezing in predatory focus. Gohan stared at Yamoshi with intense calculation. Jiren remained as still as a mountain.
Then, slowly, Goku's mouth twitched upward into a wide, reckless grin. "Heh..."
Vegeta cracked his knuckles, the sound snapping like a whip through the quiet. "Now that's a question worth answering."
Gohan let out a heavy sigh, though a fierce light danced in his eyes. "I knew this was going to happen."
Jiren swept his gaze over the group, his voice dropping into a low rumble. "There is only one way to find out."
The air instantly thickened, charged with a devastating static electricity. Five men who had spent years forging themselves in absolute solitude now stood face-to-face, unwilling to concede an inch of ground, desperate to test the limits of their newfound gods.
Goku looked around at his teammates, his smile stretching wider with every passing second. "Looks like the real training starts now."
Vegeta's eyes narrowed into lethal slits. He stepped forward, the ground cracking beneath his boots as a torrent of dark, destructive ki exploded into the heavens.
"No, Kakarot. The training ended."
His voice shook the foundations of the white void.
"Now we find out what those years were really worth."
Yamoshi smiled, a terrifying beauty in his expression. Gohan clenched his fists, letting out a surge of electric-purple ki that tore at the ground. Jiren settled into his stance, completely unshakeable.
And high above them, hidden behind the veil of the threshold, the golden eyes of Zalama watched.
He didn't move. He didn't speak.
He simply waited.
Because the five warriors had finally gathered. They were no longer the broken mortals who had entered the chamber years ago. They had become something far, far greater.
The tournament was coming.
And before they could face the horrors of the multiverse...
They would first have to tear each other apart to find out who stood at the absolute peak.
