Chapter 26 – It will not go to Prom

“It refuses. It will not go to Prom.”

“Thia, dad thinks you made Amy really upset when you turned her down.”

“It does not understand.”

"...If dad were to take a guess... Amy probably assumed you were going to prom together with her because you agreed to go dress shopping with her. You guys already bought matching dresses... and have matching rings. And you’re... well, you’re basically married at this point.”

“It does not have any Terms relating to Prom or Marriage.”

“Yeah... I know. Basically married isn't actually married. Sometimes dad forgets how strict you are with all that.”

“Terms are a fundamental part of It’s nature.”

“Dad knows. That's part of what makes Thia so great.”

“It accepts the premise. Continue.”

“Hm. Dad was just thinking... dad remembers we had some terms for school. Didn’t we agree that you would go to school until graduation? Prom is a pretty big part of school.”

“Incorrect. Prom is not on a school day.”

“What if we made some new terms?”

“It listens.”

“What if dad gave you something really important? Something mom would have really loved to see you wear.”

“The Price is not enough. It’s summoner has already offered It Everything It’s summoner owns.”

“So it can’t be things, then. Hmm..."

“Correct.”

“How about dad drives you to prom?”

“The Price is not enough.”

“And dad will do your hair.”

“It’s summoner already styles It’s hair.”

“Dad will do something really special with your hair, Thia. Special hair that will take dad over an hour to do, just so you can look just as beautiful as mom did. Or even more.”

“The Price is still not enough.”

“And dad will do your makeup, too. Special makeup that will make you absolutely stunning. The most beautiful in the whole world—well, dad already thinks Thia is the most beautiful in the whole wide world, but this special makeup will be special. Just trust dad. You’re going to make unforgettable memories. Amy’s going to be speechless.”

“Understood. It’s Task will be to go to Prom. The price offered is transport to Prom, special hair, and special makeup that creates unforgettable memories. Are the Terms correct?”

“Sounds about right.”

“The Task and Price are Just. It obeys.”

“Oh, one last thing.”

“Terms agreed upon cannot be amended.”

“No, not a term. Just a nice thing dad thinks you should do.”

“It listens.”

“Can you go tell Amy that you’ll go to prom with her?”

“It does not understand.”

“We already have terms for you to go to prom, right?”

“Correct.”

“So it won’t make a difference whether or not you tell Amy, right?”

“Correct.”

“Then dad thinks it’ll make Amy really, really, really happy if you tell her that you’ll go with her.”

“Understood. This is of Overall Benefit.”

“That’s right, Thia.”

“It will tell Amy that It will go to prom with Amy.”

“Thank you, Thia. You’re seriously going to steal Amy’s breath away.”

“Incorrect. It has not agreed on Terms for Amy’s breath.”

“Well... dad thinks it might just happen whether you mean to or not. So you’d better think of something to offer in return.”

“It accepts the premise. Continue.”

“On prom night.”
