…Kaito and Chris have concluded their fight, yet Instructor Ria remains filled with ecstasy at the spectacle she has just witnessed. Of every exchange throughout the bout, one moment continues replaying within her mind. She cannot help but wonder how Chris manages to elevate such basic techniques to such an extraordinary extent. During the final clash, both he and Kaito exchange blows at blinding speed and overwhelming strength, each strike carrying enough force to shake the training field. Kaito prepares to land what should have been the decisive blow, yet Chris extends his palm and calmly redirects the incoming fist. Instructor Ria narrows her eyes. Even with all her experience, she cannot immediately identify what he has done. His final strike seamlessly combines two techniques into one flawless sequence. He uses Step to restrict Kaito's movement while simultaneously applying Flex around his elongated palm, creating an imploding chamber of compressed aura. The instant his palm collides with Kaito's body, the imprisoned aura detonates violently from within, releasing an explosive shockwave that hurls Kaito downward into the field's regolith with devastating force. The execution is elegant, efficient, and unlike anything she expects from a first-year Zodiacian.
…A faint smile finds its way onto Instructor Ria's lips as she descends gracefully from the Cathedra hovering high above the Scorpio Academy's vast training grounds. Her boots touch the polished surface with barely a sound. Around her, the countless sparring matches have all reached their conclusions. Some Zodiacians nurse bruises, others lean on friends for support, while many simply lie exhausted beneath the immense ceiling of the academy. Instructor Ria raises her hands and claps once. The sharp sound echoes throughout the colossal hall. At once, the countless disabled nanobots scattered across the battlefield spring back to consciousness. They erupt into shimmering streams of silver light, whirring joyfully through the air before surrounding every injured Zodiacian. Wounds knit together almost instantly. Bruises fade. Torn muscles regenerate. Fractured bones mend themselves with astonishing precision. Within moments, every Zodiacian stands restored, their bodies returned to peak physical condition as though the fierce battles had never taken place.
"Hey, Predator, that was an awesome one. We definitely have to do that again." Chris says, raising his right hand with a cheerful thumbs-up. A bustling smile stretches across his face despite the battle he has just endured.
"You won now, prey..." Kaito replies, stretching from the nanobots exemplary repairs before flashing a grin that is equal parts, satisfied and annoyed. "...But the predator always gets the last catch."
The corners of Chris's lips rise even wider.
"I'll be looking forward to proving you wrong."
…Instructor Ria claps once more. Instantly, the nanobots surge into motion at extraordinary speed. Silver streams spiral throughout the academy like miniature galaxies before enveloping the battlefield itself. The broken regolith dissolves into millions of metallic particles. Craters vanish. Dust disappears. Elevated platforms reshape themselves. The rugged training grounds elegantly reconstruct into the magnificent interior of the Scorpio Academy. Recliners glide smoothly back into position. Towering walls polish themselves to a flawless sheen as violet light ripples gently across their surfaces. Within moments, no evidence of battle remains. It is as though the fight never occurred.
"Every one of you Zodiacians is strong in your own right." Instructor Ria says as every Zodiacian returns to their recliner. She stands proudly at the front of the academy, her violet robes flowing gently as the immense hall gradually settles into silence. "Every one of you possesses the potential to grow."
Her sharp purple eyes slowly sweep across the seemingly endless rows of students.
"Every one of you has polished yourselves in one way or another," she continues, carefully analyzing each face before her. "Some have simply refined themselves further than others."
She pauses, allowing anticipation to build.
"Now, to move on to today's main agenda. This will be brief."
The academy grows perfectly silent.
"First, many of you still do not possess perfect knowledge of the skills and techniques you wield. That lack of understanding will one day become the reason you falter."
She raises a single finger.
"Secondly, most of you possess poor control over your aura. During battle, that poor and unpolished control causes unnecessary fluctuations, weakening both your offense and your defense."
Another finger rises.
"And finally..."
Her gaze sharpens.
"...Most of you do not possess a proper structure for your aura."
The instant those words leave her lips, murmurs ripple throughout the academy. More than a hundred thousand Zodiacians begin whispering among themselves, the combined voices resembling distant waves crashing against an endless shoreline.
Instructor Ria simply waits.
The whispers gradually fade.
"To phrase it simply..." she says calmly, "...most of you do not possess a blueprint for the portrait of your aura."
She slowly begins pacing before them.
"Now let us break that down."
She extends one hand before her.
"What is aura?"
The question lingers through the enormous academy.
"Aura is the life force of every entity. It is the structure of an individual. It is the composition from which every living being is formed."
Her fingers gently curl inward.
"Therefore..."
"...everything..."
"...and everyone..."
"...possesses aura."
She pauses just long enough for every Zodiacian to absorb the statement.
"Secondly, aura develops alongside both the physical and mental being."
Her voice remains gentle, yet every word carries unmistakable authority.
"The stronger one's mental structure becomes, the more expansive their aura may grow."
She lightly taps her temple.
"If one focuses solely on physical development..."
Her hand lowers into a firm fist.
"...their aura becomes more oppressive. More intimidating."
A faint stream of violet aura escapes between her fingers before dissolving into the air.
"Aura naturally assumes the form given to it."
Her aura subtly shifts shape behind her, transforming into elegant ribbons before reforming into sharp crystalline petals.
"It must therefore be molded to fit the structure of its user."
Every Zodiacian watches silently.
"Finally..."
Instructor Ria smiles.
"Picture aura as clay."
Her aura instantly softens, flowing like liquid around her fingertips before reshaping into dozens of intricate geometric forms.
"It may be molded into countless shapes and countless sizes."
The floating structures continuously reconstruct themselves, demonstrating her words.
"A molded..."
"...well-polished aura possesses the ability to continue growing."
"It continues evolving."
"It continues adapting."
"It continues refining itself."
She lets the floating constructs dissolve.
"Those blessed with only minute quantities of aura must endure harsh training to increase both their output and its quality."
"And those naturally endowed with vast quantities..."
"...must instead devote themselves to refining its quality."
Her voice softens.
"Aura is the baseline of every living entity."
"It must be allowed to grow."
"Steady growth of one's aura leads to proper control over one's skills."
She folds both hands behind her back.
"That concludes today's colloquium."
A brief smile appears.
"Dismissed."
Without another word, Instructor Ria gracefully steps out of the academy, her robes fluttering gently behind her as the immense doors silently open to welcome her departure.
…The moment Instructor Ria leaves, Chris rises from his recliner without hesitation and quickly follows after her. The academy gradually empties behind him as countless Zodiacians disperse into the endless pathways branching throughout the colossal campus. Instructor Ria hears his approaching footsteps and subtly slows her pace, allowing him to catch up without ever looking back. Together, they walk through the elegant stone pathways leading toward the instructors' annexes. Towering castles shimmer beneath the daylight, their countless nanobots continuously reinforcing every structure with flowing synaptic energy.
Chris opens his mouth several times.
Each time...
...he hesitates.
The words refuse to come.
Only after they arrive before Instructor Ria's annex does he finally stop walking.
Without wasting another second, Chris bows deeply before her.
His fists tighten.
His eyes burn with unwavering determination.
"Instructor Ria..." he says firmly. "I will say it a million times if I have to."
He raises his head just enough for their eyes to meet.
"Will you be my mentor?"
His voice carries no hesitation.
Only resolve.
Instructor Ria studies him quietly.
The determination brewing within his eyes does not waver for even a heartbeat.
A faint smile slowly curves across her lips.
"You impressed me, Zodiacian."
Her voice is noticeably softer now, carrying the graceful blend of bright soprano and gentle alto that makes every word feel both elegant and commanding.
"What is your name?"
She tilts her head slightly.
"I never got it."
…"My name is Chris, and it would be my pleasure to train under you." Chris says, his voice unable to hide the excitement welling inside him. His eyes gleam with anticipation as he waits for her answer, his heart beating just a little faster with every passing second.
…"Your fight edified me." Instructor Ria says, folding her arms as she studies him once more. "I was genuinely in awe of how you used such basic techniques. Most Zodiacians spend years learning Step and Flex, yet you treated them like extensions of your own body." She pauses briefly, her sharp purple eyes narrowing with admiration rather than scrutiny. "And on top of that..." A faint smile curves across her lips. "...you defeated someone from the Kemono Clan. That alone is impressive."
She remains silent for a moment longer, evaluating him from head to toe.
Chris slowly lifts his head, meeting her gaze.
Their eyes lock.
A warm smile blossoms across her face, replacing the stern expression she usually carries.
She gently reaches forward and pats his head.
"Alright, Chris."
A light chuckle escapes her.
"You've successfully won me over."
She gives his hair one last affectionate ruffle.
"I'll be your mentor."
Her smile softens even further.
"And from now on..."
"...you'll call me Sensen."
…Chris freezes for only a heartbeat before pure joy explodes across his face. His eyes widen, his smile stretches from ear to ear, and without thinking he leaps straight toward her.
Sensen lets out a tiny laugh.
She catches him effortlessly.
Her right arm supports his upper back while her left steadies his lower back with surprising gentleness. Chris's chest presses lightly against hers, their faces ending barely two inches apart. For a brief moment, neither of them speaks.
Sensen simply smiles.
She leans forward...
...and gently plants a soft kiss on the top of his head.
Chris instinctively hugs her back, unable to contain the happiness flooding through him.
The embrace lingers for several quiet moments.
For the first time since arriving at Zodiac Academy, Chris feels as though he has finally found someone willing to guide him.
Slowly, Sensen lowers him back onto the smooth substrate beneath their feet.
"Thanks for accepting me, Sensen-chi." Chris says, a radiant smile bursting across his face, so bright it almost seems contagious.
"You're welcome." Sensen replies warmly, her voice noticeably gentler than before. "And now..."
She folds her arms.
"...from today onward..."
"...you'll be residing with me."
…Chris's expression immediately freezes.
"L... li... live..."
His eyes blink repeatedly.
"...Live with you?"
His voice comes out coarse and uncertain.
Sensen cannot help but laugh quietly at his reaction.
"You don't need to worry."
She waves a dismissive hand.
"Take me to your dorm room."
"I'll handle everything from there."
…Chris stares at her, several beads of sweat forming along the upper-right side of his forehead.
She isn't joking.
Sensen simply returns his stare with a calm but firm expression.
No smile.
No laughter.
Only certainty.
Chris immediately realizes she is completely serious.
"Y... yes, Sensen-chi."
Without another word, he leads her toward the Moonstraught Clan's dormitory.
DORM ROOM...
…The towering dormitory rises majestically before them, its architecture seamlessly blending ancient elegance with futuristic precision. Moonlight-colored stone intertwines with countless streams of living nanobots that continuously weave through its walls like flowing veins of silver. The entire structure feels alive, quietly breathing with the academy's synaptic energy.
Chris leads Sensen toward his alcove.
Once they arrive, she calmly places her hand over his.
Her fingers lightly touch his Synaptic Hand Chain.
A gentle pulse of violet light radiates outward.
"Authorization accepted."
The nanobots instantly respond.
Thousands upon thousands of microscopic machines burst from every corner of the alcove, spiraling around the room in brilliant streams of silver and purple. The entire chamber begins dissolving into billions of shimmering particles. Walls, flooring, furnishings, even the alcove itself gradually disassemble before Chris's eyes, each particle being carefully transferred into the storage matrix housed within his Synaptic Hand Chain.
Within only a few moments...
...the entire alcove has vanished.
Everything now rests safely inside the hand chain.
Sensen nods with satisfaction.
"Seems that's everything."
She turns toward the doorway.
"We should head back to my annex."
A warm smile appears.
"We'll have your alcove placed where it belongs."
Chris glances at the now-empty space where his room once stood.
He scratches the back of his head awkwardly.
"I still can't believe I'm actually going to be living with you..."
He laughs nervously.
"...but if it means I get to learn under you..."
His eyes brighten again.
"...then why not?"
Sensen smiles to herself.
"Good answer."
…Together they leave the dormitory and begin walking toward Sensen's annex. Fortunately, the instructors' district lies only a short distance from the Moonstraught dormitory. The pathways are lined with enormous crystalline trees whose translucent leaves shimmer beneath the daylight, while countless nanobots drift lazily through the air like glowing fireflies, constantly maintaining the immaculate surroundings.
Before long...
...they arrive.
The annex immediately recognizes Sensen's aura.
Without either of them touching it, the massive castle-like doors slowly swing inward with elegant precision.
A gentle current of cool air flows outward to greet them.
They step inside.
…Chris stops almost instantly.
His jaw slowly drops.
The sheer magnificence of the interior steals every word from his mouth.
The entrance porch resembles less a hallway and more the grand corridor of a royal palace. Polished light-purple lustre stretches endlessly beneath his feet, reflecting every beam of light that filters through the towering crystal windows above. The ceiling arches several stories overhead, decorated with intricate engravings that shimmer whenever the surrounding nanobots pass across them.
The hallway eventually opens into a breathtaking atrium.
Its towering dark-purple walls radiate quiet elegance, each one embedded with flowing synaptic patterns that pulse gently like living veins. Ancient antiques from countless civilizations occupy beautifully crafted pedestals throughout the room, each preserved perfectly by the nanobots. Nearby rests a magnificent shelf lined with countless documentaries chronicling the histories of legendary clans across the world.
Yet none of those captures Chris's attention.
Above the shelf...
...stands an enormous crest.
Its craftsmanship is flawless.
Its aura feels overwhelming.
The moment Chris lays eyes upon it, his breathing almost stops.
It is the monogram of the RYUJIN Clan.
The third-ranked clan in the entire world.
The only clan renowned for creating and embodying the rare mythical beast.
Even standing beneath the emblem sends an indescribable pressure washing over him.
"U... uh..."
Chris slowly points toward it.
"Sensen-chi..."
He swallows.
"...are you from the Ryujin Clan?"
Sensen follows his gaze.
A knowing smile crosses her face.
"Chris..."
She gently pats his head.
"Don't worry about that."
Her smile grows slightly mysterious.
"I'll tell you that story another time."
She lightly takes hold of his wrist.
"But right now..."
"...we have more pressing matters."
Before Chris can ask another question, she gently drags him deeper into the annex.
…They arrive at her sanctum.
Chris immediately falls silent.
The room before him is nothing short of resplendent.
Every inch radiates refinement.
Every object seems to carry centuries of history.
Towering shelves occupy the upper-left corner, displaying legendary relics and mythical antiques gathered from every corner of existence. Some radiate faint aura. Others remain perfectly dormant, yet each possesses an indescribable presence that quietly fills the room.
The walls glow with a rich light-purple hue, covered in elegant aura inscriptions that pulse softly like the heartbeat of the chamber itself.
At the very center rests an enormous dark-purple corona.
Millions of nanobots continuously orbit around it, weaving intricate patterns that resemble miniature galaxies revolving around a singular star.
Sensen's alcove rests nearby.
Unlike ordinary alcoves, this one is far larger and more sophisticated. The monogram of Scorpio Academy has been masterfully engraved across its surface, while streams of synaptic energy constantly reinforce every inch of its construction.
The entire sanctum exudes wisdom.
Power.
Experience.
It feels less like a bedroom...
...and more like the personal sanctuary of a legendary master.
…Chris slowly turns in place, absorbing every astonishing detail around him.
Everything mesmerizes him.
Then...
Something catches his eye.
At the right side of the sanctum stands an enormous enclosed chamber unlike anything he has ever seen.
Curiosity immediately takes over.
He walks toward it.
Sensen quietly follows behind him.
"Huh..."
Chris places his hand lightly against the transparent surface.
"Sensen..."
"...what is this?"
The chamber is enclosed entirely by flawless crystal-like glass infused with the academy's synaptic energy. Its dark-purple stratum beneath glows softly, while countless microscopic nanobots endlessly circulate throughout the walls. The glass feels impossibly smooth...
...and completely impenetrable.
Sensen smiles, pleased by his curiosity.
"That..."
She rests a hand gently against the chamber's exterior.
"...is called a Synaptic Chamber."
Her purple eyes shimmer with quiet pride.
"It is a cultivation chamber."
"Cultivation...? I don't really understand that. Like, what is..." Chris begins asking, but his voice trails away before the question can even leave his mouth.
His attention is stolen.
His eyes drift away from the Synaptic Chamber, wandering throughout the sanctum. They move across rows of legendary antiques whose existence alone could shake kingdoms, across beautifully crafted weapons sleeping upon their pedestals, and across countless treasures whose aura quietly filled the room with immeasurable history.
Then...
His eyes stumble upon an Aviary.
Everything else disappears.
Time itself seems to halt.
His pupils slowly widen.
His breathing stops.
His entire body freezes as though every instinct within him has forgotten how to move.
His footing slips.
His knees weaken.
He stumbles backwards...
...and falls gently into Sensen's arms before managing to regain his balance.
His eyes...
Never leave the creature.
...
It was unlike anything Chris had ever imagined.
Unlike anything any vellum had ever truly prepared him for.
Every description he had ever read...
...had failed.
The creature before him possessed scales that flowed through countless shades of majestic purple. Beginning with an impossibly soft lavender, every scale was embedded with a deep indigo glimmer that slowly shifted as light danced across its body. With every subtle movement it made, those scales reflected magnificent waves of radiant amethyst, royal violet and shimmering orchid hues, each colour melting effortlessly into the next as though twilight itself had been forged into living armour.
The lustre of its scales rivaled flawlessly polished gemstones.
Yet they looked softer...
...more alive.
Their coloration was anything but uniform.
Instead, each individual scale radiated naturally from its centre, allowing countless gradients of purple to bloom outward before fading into neighbouring scales. Along its underbelly and elegant throat rested lighter shades of lavender, lilac and mauve whose gentle glow contrasted beautifully against the creature's regal frame.
Its back...
Its shoulders...
Its limbs...
All bore a far richer shade of deep royal purple, carrying the commanding dignity expected of a ruler amongst mythical beasts.
Every scale ended with an impossibly thin vermillion border, a darker shade of violet that constantly shifted depending on the angle of the surrounding light, making its body appear as though it were endlessly breathing with colour itself.
It did not merely reflect light.
It conversed with it.
...
Chris's gaze slowly drifted upward.
The wings...
They robbed him of every remaining thought.
Magnificent.
Elegant.
Divine.
Though the creature itself possessed only a miniature body, its wings carried the majesty of a being that could command the heavens themselves. Folded neatly against its body, they already appeared enormous.
If fully unfurled...
Chris was certain...
...they would span several times the creature's own length.
The wing membranes resembled neither flesh nor feather.
Instead...
They looked like stained celestial glass.
A translucent tapestry where rivers of indigo, violet, deep purple and soft amethyst endlessly swirled together, resembling a fragment of a living nebula captured beneath crystal. Every movement caused colours to ripple throughout the membranes like galaxies flowing across the endless night sky.
Supporting those magnificent membranes were long elegant bone-like spars, each perfectly proportioned and unbelievably graceful, giving the wings both overwhelming strength and astonishing beauty.
The wings alone looked worthy of worship.
...
His gaze slowly travelled toward its head.
The creature possessed a noble, angular face sculpted with remarkable refinement.
Its jawline was powerful...
Yet elegant.
Strength...
Without brutality.
Grace...
Without weakness.
Behind its brows curved a magnificent series of regal horns fashioned from an obsidian-like material darker than midnight itself. The horns swept backwards in smooth, majestic arcs before gradually tapering into razor-sharp points.
Embedded naturally throughout those horns rested numerous light-purple pearls that shimmered softly beneath the sanctum's light, each pearl appearing as though it held centuries of accumulated aura within its tiny form.
Then...
Its eyes met his.
Chris forgot how to breathe.
Those eyes...
They were alive with intelligence.
Not animal instinct.
Not mere awareness.
Understanding.
Wisdom.
Their irises glowed with intertwining shades of emerald and sapphire, colours so vivid they seemed capable of piercing straight into one's soul. Within those eyes rested countless silent emotions alongside an indescribable glimpse of ancient power and unwavering valiance.
It was the gaze...
...of something that had witnessed history unfold.
...
Its body possessed the elegance of a serpent...
...yet the definition of a perfected predator.
Every curve of its slender frame carried beautifully sculpted musculature hidden beneath those radiant scales.
From the base of its skull stretched a magnificent crest of feather-like spines that resembled both plumage and crystalline fins simultaneously. They flowed seamlessly down the entirety of its back before continuing toward its impossibly long prehensile tail.
The tail itself moved with extraordinary elegance.
Every gentle sway resembled the stroke of a master's brush upon an endless canvas.
At its very end bloomed a beautifully ornamented spade-like tuft adorned with silky strands resembling flowing royal silk, gently radiating the creature's inner magnificence.
...
The creature moved.
Not by walking.
Not by crawling.
It glided.
Every movement carried immeasurable sophistication, every shift of its body resembling a perfectly choreographed royal dance.
Majestic.
Mystical.
Untouchable.
Its very existence enchanted the sanctum.
The aura radiating from the creature...
Chris recognised it instantly.
It was identical to Sensen's.
Calm.
Powerful.
Elegant.
Yet carrying overwhelming authority.
The creature appeared surprisingly small compared to what Chris had always imagined. Every vellum he had ever studied concerning the Ryujin Clan described colossal Ryus capable of eclipsing mountains and swallowing skies.
Yet...
Standing before this miniature Ryu...
Chris somehow felt even smaller.
Its size meant nothing.
Its presence alone overwhelmed the room.
The little creature tilted its head.
Then...
It purred.
A soft melodic vibration escaped its throat, sounding less like the voice of a beast and more like a beautiful harmony woven between crystal bells and distant thunder.
Chris could do nothing...
...except stare in absolute awe.
"Sen..."
His lips trembled.
"Sen..."
His throat dried.
"Sen..."
His entire body shook uncontrollably.
"Sen..."
His knees nearly gave way beneath him.
He had never imagined...
Not even once...
That during his lifetime...
He would stand before one of the legendary creatures whispered throughout every vellum in existence.
A true...
Ryu.
"It's alright, Seito-chan."
Sensen laughed softly.
"That's my ancillary."
She smiled proudly at the magnificent creature.
"Her name is..."
"...Amie."
Sensen snapped her fingers.
Immediately, the Aviary constructed by countless nanobots dissolved into shimmering silver streams before dispersing harmlessly into the air.
Amie spread her wings.
The sanctum instantly filled with a deep, rhythmic...
Tectonic creak.
Each massive wing unfolded layer by layer, shifting scales sliding smoothly across one another like beautifully crafted armour awakening after centuries of slumber.
Her wings extended majestically.
Far larger than Chris had imagined.
Royal violet...
Deep amethyst...
Lavender...
Indigo...
Every colour erupted simultaneously across her magnificent wings.
A powerful burst of invigorating aura surged outward, flooding the sanctum with regal pressure that made every antique vibrate softly in response.
Then...
She flew.
Not with frantic flaps.
With absolute elegance.
One powerful beat of her wings propelled her effortlessly through the air as she gracefully soared toward Sensen and Chris.
Chris's instincts exploded.
Without thinking...
He sprinted away.
"So fast!"
He practically launched himself across the sanctum in terror, convinced he was about to be flattened by a mythical beast.
...
After placing what he believed to be a "safe distance" between himself and the Ryu, Chris cautiously turned around.
Only to witness...
The mighty mythical creature...
Cuddling.
Amie nestled comfortably inside Sensen's arms, purring contentedly as her obsidian horns gently brushed against Sensen's shoulder. Her magnificent wings folded neatly behind her while her emerald-and-sapphire eyes narrowed with pure satisfaction.
She affectionately rubbed the side of her warm, beautifully hardened scales against Sensen's cheek.
Sensen smiled.
Patiently stroking along Amie's wings, tracing each magnificent scale with gentle familiarity.
The little Ryu purred louder.
Her aura swirled peacefully around both of them, filling the sanctum with a tranquil brilliance that made the entire room feel warmer.
Watching them together...
Chris could not tell...
...whether the mythical beast had chosen her master...
...or whether they had simply become family.
"Hey, Seito-chan."
Sensen looked toward him, unable to hide an amused smile.
"You don't need to be afraid."
She gently scratched beneath Amie's chin.
The little Ryu happily closed her glowing eyes.
"She won't hurt you."
…Chris, who is still jittering from the overwhelming encounter, cautiously moves closer and closer. Every careful step makes his pulse beat even faster. His breathing becomes uneven as excitement and nervousness wrestle within him. He stops only a short distance away and slowly stretches out his hand.
His eyes meet Amie's.
The little Ryu stares back.
Her obsidian eyes suddenly shimmer with a radiant violet glow, as though countless stars have awakened within them. They are intelligent, warm, and impossibly gentle.
Chris stares in amazement.
Carefully...
Almost fearfully...
He reaches out and strokes the side of her neck.
The scales feel nothing like he expected.
Instead of being cold and rough, they are warm, impossibly smooth, and polished like living gemstones that have absorbed centuries of sunlight.
Amie immediately purrs.
The sound is soft.
Melodic.
Comforting.
It resonates through Chris's chest and somehow reaches his heart, washing away every ounce of fear he had only moments ago.
Her tail sways happily.
Without warning...
She leaps.
"Eh?!"
Chris barely has time to react before the miniature Ryu launches herself directly into him.
Although small, her body carries surprising weight.
The impact sends Chris tumbling backward onto the substratum.
Thud!
Before he can even gather himself...
Amie begins enthusiastically licking his face.
Her royal-violet tongue repeatedly brushes across his cheeks, forehead and chin.
"Ahahaha!"
Chris bursts into uncontrollable laughter.
"Amie! Stop! Stop!"
She refuses.
Her affectionate licking only becomes faster.
Droplets of saliva scatter everywhere as the little Ryu continues showering him with endless affection.
Chris laughs until tears nearly gather in his eyes.
Finally...
He wraps both arms around her back.
Pulling her close into a heartfelt embrace.
Amie happily buries herself against him, continuing to purr louder and louder while gently rubbing her horns against his shoulder.
Watching them...
One could hardly tell who was happier.
...
Sensen quietly watches from a short distance.
A faint blush slowly colours her cheeks.
A warm smile naturally forms across her face as she observes the two of them getting along so effortlessly.
"They've already become friends..."
She softly chuckles to herself.
With a gentle snap of her fingers...
The nanobots immediately respond.
Silver streams swirl gracefully around the Aviary, reconstructing its elegant crystalline enclosure in only a few moments.
Amie gives Chris one final affectionate nuzzle before gracefully spreading her magnificent wings.
With one elegant beat...
She rises effortlessly into the air.
Her lavender, indigo and royal-purple wings shimmer beautifully beneath the sanctum's light as she majestically glides back into her Aviary.
She lands elegantly upon her perch.
Turning back toward Chris...
She lets out one last gentle purr.
...
"Seito."
Sensen calls gently.
"We need to focus now."
She smiles warmly.
"We still have to find the perfect place for your alcove."
…Chris continues staring at Amie.
Amie stares right back.
He smiles.
The little Ryu immediately answers with another affectionate purr.
For a brief moment...
Neither of them wants to look away.
Only when Sensen gently calls his name again does Chris finally snap back to reality.
"Oh!"
He scratches the back of his head awkwardly.
"Yeah..."
"My bad."
He laughs sheepishly.
"I was just..."
His eyes wander toward Amie once more.
"...completely mesmerized by her beauty."
Even as Sensen gently pulls him away, Chris cannot resist stealing one final glance at the majestic little Ryu.
Amie happily waves her tail at him.
...
Sensen eventually stops before an entirely vacant portion of her annex.
Chris blinks.
He looks around.
Nothing.
Only smooth flooring and empty walls.
"Huh..."
He tilts his head.
"Sensen..."
"I think you missed your way."
He points toward the empty space.
"There's... nothing here."
Sensen simply smiles.
"Don't worry, Seito."
She folds her arms confidently.
"I'll handle this."
She gestures toward the empty space.
"What you're looking at is only empty for now."
Her smile grows slightly wider.
"So..."
"Watch carefully."
"And learn."
She taps her Synaptic Hand Chain.
A gentle pulse of violet light ripples outward.
Immediately...
A three-dimensional holographic blueprint erupts before them.
Countless translucent blue construction lines stretch through the air, assembling an incredibly detailed architectural model.
Every wall.
Every chamber.
Every corridor.
Every furnishing.
Everything appears suspended within the floating projection.
Chris's mouth slowly opens.
Sensen calmly raises her right index finger.
With elegant precision she begins maneuvering the blueprint itself.
Walls slide effortlessly across the projection.
Entire rooms expand.
Others rotate.
New chambers emerge.
Before long...
A brand-new sanctum has been perfectly designed inside the vacant portion of the annex.
She inputs another synaptic coda.
The holographic interface immediately responds.
Then...
She gently takes Chris's hand.
"Place it here."
She guides his palm toward the floating blueprint.
The instant his hand touches it...
Prick.
A microscopic synaptic needle briefly pierces his skin.
A single crimson drop of blood emerges.
Almost immediately...
The tiny wound heals itself.
Chris instinctively pulls his hand back.
"Ow..."
He rubs his finger.
Only then does he notice...
The injury is already gone.
His eyes widen.
"It healed already..."
...
WHIRRRRRR...
The annex suddenly comes alive.
Millions...
Then billions...
Of nanobots erupt from every direction.
They swirl through the air like an endless metallic galaxy, rotating, revolving and accelerating until they become streams of shimmering silver light.
The once-empty space immediately begins reconstructing itself.
Chris's alcove ejects from his Synaptic Hand Chain, materializing in countless microscopic particles.
The nanobots accelerate even faster.
Walls rise from the floor.
Columns assemble themselves layer by layer.
The ceiling spirals upward as monochromatic-grey lustre elegantly arranges itself into enormous concentric circles, resembling galaxies carved into architecture.
The surrounding walls finish forming before becoming lined with flowing monochromatic coronas that pulse rhythmically with Chris's own aura.
His alcove gently embeds itself into the far wall.
The nanobots reinforce it continuously.
Its size expands noticeably.
Elegant monochromatic-grey lines trace themselves across the transparent glass, while the Ryujin Clan Seito insignia gradually materializes upon its surface in radiant silver light.
The symbol glows proudly.
As though acknowledging its new master.
At the left corner of the sanctum...
Another structure begins rising.
A massive Synaptic Chamber.
Its towering glass walls assemble seamlessly from countless layers of reinforced synaptic crystal, each one lined internally with flowing monochromatic-grey energy.
Above it...
The chamber's ceiling forms from an extraordinary black gaseous substance.
It moves like smoke...
Yet appears denser than steel.
Soft enough to resemble clouds.
Strong enough to withstand unimaginable force.
The entire interface continuously swirls with billions of circulating nanobots, endlessly maintaining and refining its structure.
Beside the main chamber...
A smaller auxiliary chamber automatically constructs itself.
The instant Chris's aura is detected...
Its entrance silently slides open.
The black substratum beneath the chamber finishes forming.
Several perfectly circular aura pores emerge from its centre, gently pulsing with monochromatic-grey light.
Every pulse resonates directly with Chris's life aura.
The room...
Feels alive.
As though it has already accepted him.
...
"WOOOOO!!"
Chris practically shouts.
His voice echoes throughout the newly completed sanctum.
He spins around excitedly.
Unable to contain himself.
Sensen watches him with a bright smile.
"You like it?"
She asks, unable to hide the happiness blooming across her own face as she watches his childlike excitement.
Chris turns toward her.
His eyes sparkle.
"Like it?"
He laughs.
"Like it?"
He points around the room excitedly.
"Like it?"
He shakes his head repeatedly.
"Liking it is an understatement!"
His grin stretches from ear to ear.
"I LOVE IT!"
Without another word...
He practically hops around the sanctum, inspecting every corner, every wall and every newly constructed detail with boundless excitement.
Eventually...
His attention lands upon the enormous Synaptic Chamber once again.
His curiosity immediately returns.
He slowly walks toward it.
Turning back toward Sensen...
He points at the chamber.
"Huh..."
"Sensen..."
"I saw one exactly like this in your sanctum."
He studies the towering structure once more.
"What exactly..."
"...is this chamber for?" Chris asks, his curiosity shining brighter than ever.
…"Oh, that?"
Sensen turns toward the massive chamber with a smile, resting her hand gently against its transparent surface. The countless nanobots flowing through its crystalline walls respond instantly, illuminating the chamber with soft pulses of monochromatic violet light.
"That is what we call a Synaptic Chamber."
She lightly taps the smaller chamber positioned beside it.
"This auxiliary chamber is where your special Chrono Suit is warped onto your body."
Her fingers glide across its smooth exterior.
"It isn't an ordinary Chrono Suit."
"It is designed specifically for cultivation."
"It is extremely elastic, incredibly flexible, and capable of adapting to every movement your body makes without restricting you."
She pauses briefly before continuing.
"But..."
Her expression becomes noticeably more serious.
"...that flexibility is only the beginning."
She turns to face Chris completely.
"The moment the suit finishes warping onto your body, it begins increasing in weight."
Chris blinks.
"Not by minutes."
"Not by hours."
"Every second."
"It continuously becomes heavier and heavier, forcing your muscles, joints and entire skeletal structure to adapt. The greater your endurance becomes, the greater the burden it places upon you."
She points toward the ceiling of the chamber.
"The chamber itself also begins changing."
"The internal temperature continuously rises."
"It becomes hotter..."
"...and hotter..."
"...until the heat begins scalding your skin."
Chris instinctively gulps.
"The purpose isn't torture."
"It is to strengthen your body's resistance against impact, pain, and extreme environmental conditions."
Sensen walks slowly around the chamber.
"The instant you step inside..."
"The chamber begins extracting information directly from your memories."
"It searches for your most difficult battles..."
"...your greatest fears..."
"...your closest defeats..."
"...the fights that pushed you closest to your limits."
Her purple eyes briefly narrow.
"Using that information..."
"...the nanobots recreate them."
Chris's eyes widen.
"Not illusions."
She shakes her head.
"Real combat simulations."
"They recreate your opponents."
"The battlefield."
"The conditions."
"The pressure."
"They reproduce every detail your memories can provide."
She gently places both hands behind her back.
"And then..."
She smiles.
"They improve them."
"The gravity inside the chamber increases every passing second."
"The temperature rises continuously."
"The Chrono Suit grows progressively heavier."
"The nanobot opponent constantly evolves."
"Its speed increases."
"Its strength increases."
"Its adaptability improves."
"Its flexibility becomes greater."
"It learns."
"It refines."
"It becomes stronger every second."
Chris unconsciously takes another look at the chamber.
Sensen notices.
"As your own strength increases..."
"So does everything else."
She raises a single finger.
"If your aura doubles..."
"The chamber doubles."
She raises another.
"If your physical strength improves..."
"The suit becomes heavier."
Another finger.
"If your endurance rises..."
"The heat becomes more intense."
Another.
"If your reflexes sharpen..."
"The opponent becomes even faster."
Finally...
She clenches her hand into a fist.
"The chamber never allows you comfort."
"It constantly creates a battlefield where you possess every disadvantage..."
"...while your opponent fights at their absolute peak."
"It increases level after level..."
"...forcing your body..."
"...your mind..."
"...your aura..."
"...and your spirit..."
"...to surpass their limits."
Her smile returns.
"It exists for only one purpose."
"To push its user to the absolute peak of their capabilities."
…
"Cooooooooool!!"
Chris practically shouts.
His eyes sparkle brighter than ever.
He circles around the chamber excitedly like a child discovering treasure.
"When can I start?!"
His enthusiasm practically overflows.
"I want to train in it right now!"
Sensen immediately shakes her head.
"No."
Her voice is gentle...
Yet firm.
"You won't be starting anytime soon."
She looks directly into his eyes.
"That chamber..."
"...can kill."
Chris's excitement pauses.
"Inside the Synaptic Chamber..."
"Every healing nanobot is completely disabled."
"There is no automatic recovery."
"There is no emergency assistance."
"There is no safety mechanism."
"If you collapse..."
"You survive by your own strength."
"If you cannot endure..."
"You die."
The room briefly falls silent.
Sensen's expression remains composed.
"You must become strong enough to withstand it before you ever step inside."
She folds her arms.
"And for that..."
"I'll be giving you five training tasks."
"They'll be spread throughout the course of one month."
She raises five fingers before him.
"You must successfully complete every single one."
"No shortcuts."
"No exceptions."
"If you clear all five..."
Her smile returns.
"...then your cultivation inside the Synaptic Chamber begins."
She lowers her hand.
"But..."
"If you fail even one..."
Her eyes sharpen slightly.
"...you'll restart every task from the beginning."
"You'll repeat them..."
"...again..."
"...and again..."
"...until your body, aura and mind are finally capable of handling the chamber."
…
Chris remains silent for only a moment.
Then...
A determined smile slowly spreads across his face.
His eyes ignite with motivation.
"Alright then!"
He clenches both fists tightly.
"So this..."
He grins at Sensen.
"...is the beginning of my colloquium with you, Sensen."
His voice fills with conviction.
"I'll work harder than anyone."
"I'll surpass every trial you give me."
"And one day..."
He smiles even wider.
"...I'll become a force that no one will ever dare underestimate."
…
Sensen quietly watches him.
The determination shining within his eyes makes her smile naturally.
She steps closer.
Gently patting the top of his head once again.
"Good."
"I'm looking forward to it, Chris."
Her voice carries both warmth and pride.
"I'll be watching your growth every step of the way."
Chris beams.
His bright, bustling smile radiates throughout the sanctum.
Seeing that smile...
Sensen cannot help but smile back.
For reasons she cannot quite explain...
Watching him overflow with excitement warms her heart far more than she expected.
