"Alright, Ma'am," Indah said, stepping out to the restaurant. She queued and placed the order.
When the food arrived, she stared at the huge pile. Good heavens—how am I supposed to carry all this? That cruel boss did this on purpose, she thought.
Suddenly her phone rang—it was Desi. "Hello, Ma'am?"
"Indah, where's the food?"
"Just on my way with it now, Ma'am."
"Hurry up—Sir Radit has been waiting. He says he's starving," Desi urged.
"On my way," Indah said, hanging up and rushing out, balancing food in both hands. Radit watched her struggling from a distance, a satisfied smile on his face.
She does look a little pitiful… but she deserves it. Who told her to slap me in front of everyone? he thought.
Indah handed out meals to everyone first, then hurried to Radit’s office. But as she reached his desk, the food slipped and fell. She quickly picked it up and placed it on his desk.
"I'm so sorry, Sir—it was an accident," she said, head bowed.
"Can't you do anything right?" Radit stared at her coldly.
"I'm sorry, Sir."
"And you expect me to eat food that's been on the floor? I don't care—go replace it. Now," he said sharply.
"Very well, Sir," Indah said, defeated, and walked out.
What a cruel, heartless man. If I didn't need this job… she muttered, returning to the restaurant. When she got back with a fresh meal, Radit waved it away.
"I'm not hungry anymore. Take it away or throw it in the bin. Just leave," he said dismissively.
Indah walked out. I could just punch that smug face of his, she thought, going back to her desk.
"My stomach… it’s starting to ache. I haven't eaten all day," she realized. She opened her own meal and ate quickly.
Her phone rang. "Hello?"
"Have you eaten yet?" It was Alfian.
"Just starting to eat now."
"Eat well, okay? I'll pick you up this afternoon."
"Sure. Bye, I'm eating now," she said, hanging up.
When she finished, Desi came over. "Sir Radit has assigned you extra work—and it needs to be done today."
"Ugh… more work?" Indah slumped.
"This is what he asked for. Please get it done."
"So much of it? And all today?"
"I'm sorry, Indah. These are his orders."
"Ma'am, please tell him not to give me this much work all at once."
"I wish I could help, but I just follow orders too. I'm sorry."
"Alright… thank you anyway," Indah sighed, resting her head on the desk. He's going too far. He has no heart, she thought.
"My head is spinning. I don't even know where to start," she groaned, rubbing her temples.
You can do this, Indah. Keep going, Radit thought to himself, watching her from across the room with a quiet smile.
Later Desi came to Radit. "Sir, we've received an email—business partners from another company will be visiting us soon."
"Good. Keep me posted on the exact date. And tell the new employee to finish that report as soon as possible—I'll be presenting it when they arrive. Understood?"
"Yes, Sir." Desi went back to Indah. "You have to finish today. Those partners are coming soon and Sir Radit needs it tomorrow morning."
"All this? But it's almost time to go home! I can't do all this alone!"
"I'm sorry, Indah. It comes directly from him," Desi said and left.
He's doing this on purpose. Fine—I'll just get it done and go home, Indah told herself, typing away while massaging her throbbing head.
Radit then called everyone to the meeting room. "Make sure everything is perfect. These are important partners—I won't tolerate mistakes," he told Desi.
"Understood, Sir."
"And—have the new girl prepare refreshments for our guests."
"But Sir… we have cleaners for that."
"No. Let her do it."
"She's still new though…"
"Then show her how."
"Yes, Sir," Desi said, bowing her head.
Radit returned to his desk. Hours passed. Everyone went home, but Indah was still there typing. Radit walked past her without a word and headed out.
Ugh! I could just…! Fine. Work faster so you can go home, she told herself.
Night fell. She stayed up late working until her eyes grew heavy, and eventually she fell asleep at her desk.
At 6:00 AM, Radit arrived and found her still asleep. She stayed here all night… she looks exhausted. Maybe I should buy her breakfast, he found himself thinking.
He went to a nearby restaurant, bought food and a drink, and quietly placed it on her desk before going into his office.
About thirty minutes later, Indah woke up. She was shocked to find a warm meal waiting for her. No one else had arrived yet. She looked behind her—there sat Radit at his desk, already working and sipping his drink, pretending not to notice her.
