After graduation, David and Marilyn stayed in touch.
Life was no longer simple. There were applications, examinations, family responsibilities and decisions about the future. Yet whenever they talked, the old friendship returned as naturally as a familiar song.
One evening, Marilyn asked, “If you could change one thing about our story, what would it be?”
David thought for a long time.
“Nothing.”
“Not even the fights?”
“Not even the goodbyes.”
“Why?”
“Because without them, I wouldn't understand how important you are.”
Marilyn smiled.
Their story was no longer just about being together.
It was about growing into people who could choose each other freely.
