Marilyn and I became friends quickly.
We discovered that we had many things in common.
We both loved stories.
We both hated boring lessons.
We both enjoyed music.
And, most importantly, we both loved movies.
Every Friday after school, we would sit together and discuss the movies we had watched.
“What's the best movie you've ever seen?” Marilyn asked me one afternoon.
I thought carefully.
“I don't know.”
She laughed.
“You watch hundreds of movies and you don't know?”
“Maybe I haven't found the best one yet.”
She looked at me.
“Maybe the best movie isn't something you watch.”
“What is it?”
“Something you live.”
I smiled.
“That's deep.”
“I'm a writer.”
“That explains everything.”
She threw a pen at me.
I caught it.
For a moment, we laughed.
Neither of us knew that she had just described our future.
