CHAPTER TWENTY — THE WRONG CONCLUSION

For several days, David avoided Marilyn.

She called.

He didn't answer.

She sent messages.

He ignored them.

Finally, she wrote:

“Why are you avoiding me?”

David replied:

“I'm not.”

“Then answer my calls.”

“I've been busy.”

She became angry.

“So have I.”

Silence followed.

Neither of them knew how to repair the distance.

Sometimes the biggest problems in relationships aren't caused by betrayal.
