KIERRA'S POV

I sighed and got up, starting to pack my stuff back into my bag.

I draped my beach gown over the one piece blue bikini I had on _ that left nothing to the imagination, the beach gown was transparent anyway and did nothing to cover me up.

“I'm thinking too much. It's time to go home.” I muttered under my breath as I slipped my feet into my black flip-flops.

My phone rang as I started to walk away. The caller ID showed Peter on the line.

I swiped right and put the phone over my ear. “Hey, ugly. What's popping? You suddenly remembered me, huh?”

I said drily. Peter hadn't been home for weeks and I had not heard anything from him at all.

It was probably the reason I started to think about how badly he influenced me because he wasn't around.

“I'm sorry, mi amor. I had to take care of some business for dad. Some drug shipment. Just got done hours ago.” He said .

I grimaced. For the first time, I realized how bad it sounded and I wondered what the hell I was doing being friends with someone like that.

I had always known Peter was in on it but I always defended him in front of my parents.

“Um, okay. It's fine.” I told him unable to come up with anything else.

“So, I'm back home. I thought we should hang out at our favourite club. I have some coke with me. I know how you love that stuff, we could get high tonight.” He said.

I froze. Suddenly, it felt like something fell from my eyes, I blinked back tears.

Is this what my life has been for the past one year? Parties and coke and getting high.

What happened to straight A, strict, disciplined Kierra who always had her head in books? I didn't recognize myself anymore.

I cleared my throat and uttered the words that ultimately changed my life forever.

I didn't think, I didn't feel, I just talked.

“Peter, I'm sorry but I can't. And I can't continue being your friend. I've been thinking a lot since you weren't around.”

“And I realized how much my life has changed _ and not in a good way since I had met you.”

“I'm sorry if this comes as a shock to you but we can't be friends anymore. I hope you have a good life but I liked the person I was before I met you.”

The line was silent for way too long and I thought he had ended the call when he suddenly spoke.

He scoffed, “You have no idea what you're saying, Princessa. You can't come out now. You know too much.”

“Saying you don't want to be friends anymore is saying you don't want to live anymore, mi amor.”

“I'm sure you wouldn't want to leave your brainless parents behind.” All these he delivered in a slow deadly voice.

I laughed harshly, my heart starting to beat chaotically against my chest as dread travelled up my spine and over my entire body.

“Go to hell, Peter. You're bluffing. I'm done with this friendship. Goodbye.” I ended the call without waiting to hear his next words.

I breathed in and out, as I tucked my phone into my handbag, a small smile slowly spreading across my face.

“I did it.” I whispered. I told myself I made the right choice as I left the shore and found my way to my room to freshen up.

When I was done showering, I looked around the small room that I had slept in for the past two days.

I was making sure I had nothing of mine lying around as I tended to leave my stuff lying around.

I sighted my favourite lacy red underwear and went for it, sighing in relief.

I would have been horrified if I had lost it. I packed quickly, stuffing my belongings into my small black duffel bag.

I checked the toilet to make sure I wasn't forgetting any of my skincare.

Once I was done, I quietly left the room and made my way to the parking area where my small Mercedes was parked.

It was nothing fancy, but it got me by and was totally reliable.

I realized how it had been for the best that I never accepted for Peter to buy me a new car, now that I had cut ties with him, it would have been awkward trying to return the car.

I dumped my duffel bag in the back seat and got in.

I slipped on my sunglasses and sighed as I settled into the seat.

I turned on the radio and the last song I played on the playlist came on, and I squealed excitedly as Imagine Dragons filled the car.

I started the car and zoomed off in the direction of home as I sang along to “Believer.”

My phone rang, and I reached for it. I had taken it out of my handbag so I could easily reach for it.

My dad's name was flashing across the screen. When it came to my parents, I already knew that when dad was calling, the phone was probably on speaker and mum was listening too.

I smiled, as I swiped right and connected the phone to my car's speaker. “Hi, Dad.” I said.

“Hey, plum. On your way back already? We miss you.” My dad whined.

Yes, whined. My parents could be such babies sometimes and I loved them, we got along just fine, that was when we weren't arguing about my friendship with Peter.

But, the past two weeks since Peter wasn't home have been rosy and I had spent a lot of time bonding with them and trying to mend the crack in our relationship.

I had only left about two days ago to take a break at the beach because I needed to think.

“I'm driving home as we speak, clingy much. I'll be home soon. Just make sure to have mum prepare a giant sized meal. I'm starving.” I said with a chuckle.
