Chapter 2: A New Look and a Bold Plan
Days bled into one another as I slowly forced my mind to adapt to the bizarre reality of my new existence. Acceptance wasn't an epiphany; it was a slow, grinding process of waking up every morning, looking down at my short, round hands, and remembering that I wasn't who I used to be. But survival in a universe plagued by world-ending threats meant sitting around feeling sorry for myself was a luxury I couldn't afford.
One afternoon, standing once again in front of that unforgiving bathroom mirror, I made a firm decision. Change had to start somewhere.
I leaned in close, staring at the smooth, polished expanse of my scalp, letting out a sharp sigh of disbelief. No hair. Damn it, Krillin, how on earth did you manage to live like this for decades? The breeze must hit the top of this head and echo.
It was time to ditch the hand-me-down aesthetic. I was done wearing the classic orange martial arts uniforms that practically screamed "punch me, I'm a side character" or trying to mimic Goku's endless obsession with the turtle school style. If I was going to navigate this terrifying new life, I needed to feel like me, not a carbon copy of a Saiyan's shadow.
Rummaging through the closet, I pulled out a clean red t-shirt, crisp white wristbands, and a pair of light beige pants with a loose, comfortable fit. Stepping back in front of the mirror after changing, I actually cracked a small, approving grin. Not bad at all. The old Z-style casual look suited this body surprisingly well, giving off an aura of relaxed readiness rather than full-blown battle-hardened panic.
Just as I was admiring the outfit, the subtle click of a doorframe alerted me. I turned to see 18 standing in the doorway, leaning lazily against the jamb with her arms crossed over her chest. Her icy blue eyes swept over me, taking in the red shirt and beige pants.
She raised a single, skeptical eyebrow, her gaze lingering on my changed appearance.
"What's with the change of clothes, Krillin?" she asked, her voice carrying that trademark hint of cool detachment that always kept me slightly on edge.
For a split second, my heart skipped a beat, a cold spike of panic threatening to give away the fact that a total stranger was currently piloting her husband's body. But I forced my shoulders to drop, keeping my expression loose and nonchalant.
"Ah, 18. Noticing fast, huh?" I replied, flashing what I hoped was a convincing, casual grin. "Oh, it's just... I'm tired of wearing those old uniforms all the time. Figured it was about time for a change of pace, you know?"
She held my gaze for a long, uncomfortable moment, the silence stretching thick enough to suffocate a normal man. I kept my breathing steady, silently praying she wouldn't dig any deeper. Finally, a faint, neutral expression settled back onto her face.
"Very well then," she said smoothly, turning away from the door. "Dinner's ready."
As we sat down at the table for dinner, my mind was racing at a million miles an hour, plotting out a master strategy. Sure, surviving domestic life with an ex-assassinating android wife was one hurdle, but there was a much more pressing, existential crisis that needed addressing immediately: my lack of hair. I couldn't live the rest of my life looking like a polished billiard ball.
First things first, I thought to myself, watching 18 quietly eat across the table. I'm going to charm 18 tonight, secure some domestic harmony, and then tomorrow morning, it's straight to Bulma.
Bulma was a genius billionaire with a private radar that could track down magic wishing spheres across the entire planet. If anyone could help me bypass the natural order and wish for a full head of luxurious hair, it was her.
Later that night, as the house settled into a heavy, quiet stillness, the tension in the air shifted. I managed to bridge the gap, saying the right things, playing my cards carefully, and guiding the evening into a remarkably warm and intimate direction. Miraculously, it went exceptionally well—better than I had any right to expect given my internal panic.
Morning arrived with the bright, unfiltered rays of a Dragon Ball sun pouring through the bedroom window. 18 was already awake, looking effortlessly composed. As I got dressed back into my new red t-shirt and beige pants, I tossed my casual announcement her way.
"Hey, I'm heading out today," I said, slipping on my shoes. "Going to drop by Bulma's house for a bit."
She barely looked up from what she was doing, offering a vague, dismissive nod of acknowledgment. With that sorted, I scooped up a quick goodbye for Marron, who was busy playing with her toys in the living room, and stepped out onto the porch.
I took a deep breath, channeled a burst of inner ki, and shot straight up into the clear blue skies, rocketing through the clouds with a trail of white energy as I set a direct course for Capsule Corporation.
