Chapter 8: Mechanics

Teal, Van and Ryu sat in the park thinking silently as the children in the park were running and making noise.

"Hey Teal." Ryu broke the silence.

"You said that Miss Shades was using vibration of her hands to create those shockwaves— I mean the soundwaves. You also used it right?" As Ryu asked the question Van also gave a doubtful look towards Teal.

Teal blinked twice looking at them stare at him. He shifted his head to Van and then Ryu.

"Well... You see... Ummm... " Teal hesitated looking for a word in which he can explain how he did it.

"For starters you can say that I found that she was using vibrations to release the soundwaves. She concentrated her vibrated energy to a single point like her palm and released it to blow things away."

"Like they use in those martial arts movies?" Ryu asked looking excited.

"Yeah like that. I noticed another thing too. When she used to travel like fly or come towards us she used soundwaves too." 

"That is quite possible with the properties of soundwaves. It pushes you off the ground to make you travel fast in any direction. To stay floated in the air you have to maintain the soundwave in the same frequency. I am surprised you found out so much about it just from a single fight against her." Van shook his head admiring the observation Teal had over the battle.

"You aren't the only smart one here Van," Teal replied with an annoyed expression, but there was no heat in it.

"I have another question Ryu." Teal turned to Ryu "How the hell did you fight like that? You were moving like you have fought thousands like that."

"Well... This is my first time using my shield to fight a real person. I don't know how but I just moved instinctively the entire time I was fighting." Ryu replied but he had a smirk on his face.

 Van spoke looking at him acting all smug "Look at his smug face. But I should appreciate. You moved like you have been fighting for a while. The way you used your shield, for both offense and defense."

"I want to know how to use that shield too. But i can't understand the principle behind it." Teal spoke looking at Ryu in jealousy.

"Maybe it doesn't work like how the vibration works? Like vibration can be made by anyone but popping up a shield from your hand? And if you look carefully, your palm doesn't have a small hole like Ryu has." Van explained like a father explains his son that he can't have that toy.

Teal's expression of childish stubbornness shifts to a serious look like he discovered something and looked at both of them to mention something that came to his mind "But there is one detail we all missed to mention." 

"What is that?" Ryu and Van asked in unison.

"Just before Miss Shades passed away she said something," Teal let the suspension grow with the way he was speaking "She said that she was glad that the sky isn't pink and we are safe, remember?"

Van's eyes grew wide. He thought to himself how he could miss that sentence "I totally forgot about that with all that happened... She mentioned pink sky, the same thing you mentioned before your arm was revealed and also we are safe... that could mean that she was glad that she didn't harm us when she went berserk."

Teal was rather unsatisfied with the answer "Maybe it could mean something else. Why would she be mention it with the pink sky which she was happy wasn't present? There is something more to it."

Ryu stepped in between them "Look I don't know anything about sky and all but I think I agree with Teal. Mentioning the pink sky and safety of us? And she didn't particularly mention us. She mentioned her children, that includes the whole school. So we can't just jump into the conclusion all of a sudden."

Van let out a soft groan "Ugh... when did you guys start getting smart. Last time you couldn't even find me being the imposter in that guessing game."

Teal's eyes widened "So YOU were the imposter! Why didn't you reveal at last?"

"I did reveal! How can you be so forgetful." Van laughed at Teal.

"Jokes aside. Teal, teach me that sound wave thing." Ryu asked Teal with a fire in his eyes.

"Eh. Why would I teach you that when you have a cool shield?" Teal looked at him like he was not interested to teach him.

"What! Dude. Just teach me. What if we encounter another one of uhhh... what do we call for guys who have these limbs?" Ryu asked his leg making up and down moments like its vibrating.

"Ummm. Lets see... How about Hubots?" Teal suggested like he came up with a genius name.

"Ew. Who let this man name things. He seriously has bad taste." Van added.

"Yeah it sounds so bad. You just added human and robot. What about Lambians." Ryu suggested while mocking Teal.

"That sounds good. I know you didn't think of anything and just gave that name." Van looked at Teal, giving him a look that said 'he is better than you at naming'.

Teal's face was pale as they both ganged up on him "Hmph, fine. I guess I am a "Lambian" too."

"Hey Teal! Don't you dare run away from teaching me!" Ryu glared at Teal.

"Ummm... Ugh. Fine, I will teach you!" Teal rolled his eyes.

"So what should i do first?" Ryu's eyes were shining from expectation.

"Take that look off your face. First try vibrating your arm, focus on a single point like your arm and then imagine you are shooting a laser from that hand."

Ryu exhales and brings his hand forward. 

He concentrated trying to vibrate his arm and imagines shooting a laser from his hand.

"Hey Teal, its not releas—" Suddenly and red light flew out from his palm making a hole in the tree and blast off the rock far away.
