The power came through the broken door like a river just found a way to flow , and it did not feel like pain.
That was the part Julius could never explain afterward. He had waited eleven years for his Aura to answer him, and every story he had read said the first awakening hurt, that it burned, that boys wept the first time the fire came up in them. His did not hurt. It felt like coming up out of cold water into the sun. It felt like every shut door in the world opening at once.
It felt amazing.
His Aura, the one that had spent his whole life beating itself bloody against a wall it could never get past, found the gap the word life had torn open and poured through it. On the far side of that gap, something enormous was waiting to be fueld by aura .
He felt it fill him. Fills the way water fills a cup, except the cup was a boy and the water did not stop coming. It rose up his spine and out along his arms and pushed against the inside of his skin until the skin could not hold it, and where it pushed hardest, on the backs of his hands and his wrists, very thin black lines open through the flesh like cracks in cooling glass. No blood at all. The air around him went red, it was so thin that you can not see it until carefully concentrate on it but his titan skin handled it well. Now his body start to feel like burning
And under all of it cane a thought
*I could end them.*
. It was not just anger but it was like a wish with anger.Julius sat silently on the bench and realized thought something scary that If he stood up right now, he could kill everyone in the room.
The governor who always looked down on his family.
The merchant who had insulted his mother in front of everyone.
The marshal who spoke about Lyra as if she was nothing.
All of them.
And the worst part was that he belived that he could .
Maybe because for the first time in life he felt power AURA .
It came as calm. That was the part that frightened him later. Rage he would have understood; rage was his. This was a quiet, enormous wanting that did not feel like his, and did not seem to care in the slightest what he wanted.
Then his body stood up without asking.
There was no gap between the wanting and the doing, the way there is none when you remove your hand instantly off a hot stove. One moment he was on the bench, the next off it and moving, fast, far too fast for a boy who an hour ago could not circulate his aura properly.
And the thing behind the door knew exactly where it wanted to go.
Not the marshal. Not the nobles. It pulled him sideways through the crowd, toward one man standing quiet and without worry with his hands folded. All that vast cold weight narrowed to a single point and aimed itself like a thrown spear at Cassian Voss.
A guard stepped into the gap. He was Stage One, armored head to foot, only doing his job, bringing a arm up to catch the boy gently. He never got his feet set. Whatever drove Julius did not slow or notice him as a person. An open palm banged into the guard's chest. The guard was lifted from his feet and thrown behind . He flew around 2-3 steps in air before crashing on the floor behind .
His armor sounded loudly after touching the floor and that sound was too loud
And the whole court felt it.
Not saw. Felt. A energy rolled out from the boy, cold and wrong and far too big for the body it came from, and got attention of the most powerful people on the planet. Generals, sovereign blooded lords, men who had killed more people than Julius had ever met, every one of them went still. A cold feeling suddenly was in the room. Some people did not know why, but they felt scared.
For a moment, everyone went silent.
The same court that had destroyed a man with their words and papers that morning was now looking the scary red eyes of that child. Its not that they were scared of julius but his bloodlust
Julius was still not powerful enough to make them feel threatend for life . Then Aurelius moved before any other guards could take action.
Nobody saw the Shield of Titania cross the floor. He was at the far wall, and then he was not, a mountain that had decided to run, and he caught julius out of the air before he could take another step and in one or two step smooth move , he pinned him to the stone floor.
To everyone watching it looked like a strong knight holding down a upset lil boy .
It was not only that but the second his hands closed on the boy, something came out of Aurelius too, and it was not red and it was not loud. It was weight. Cold, huge, total. It was like someone had put a hand over a flame and anger started to go down , and it pressed, and kept pressing it until he come back to hi sense.
"Come back." Aurelius's voice was very low and very fast, meant for one pair of ears. "Whatever you are in there. Get back. Now." A breath. "Your mother is watching. Come back to her."
And the word mother went down past the power and his thoughts , past the calm big wanting, and found the boy below all of it.
Julius came back into himself the way you come awake from falling. His cheek was against cold stone. Aurelius knelt over him with one huge hand flat between his shoulder blades, and behind him his father's chains were rattling, because Valen had taken one hard step toward his son and a ring of spears had dropped to stop him.
He could not get his breath right. His whole body shook. The heat had emptied out of him and left only cold, and a deep, bone-level tiredness, like he had not slept in a year.
To the rest of the hall it was already over. A grief mad boy had lost his head, lunged at a guard, and been put down in two seconds by the strongest knight in the kingdom. The chill went away, and people forgot they had ever felt it, because that is what people do.
Two men in that room knew better.
Cassian Voss had not moved when the boy came for him. He had not flinched, had not even unfolded his hands. He had watched it come with that same mild measuring interest, and where every other soul had felt only a nameless cold, Cassian had felt the rest: the weight picking him out of four hundred people and aiming itself at him and nothing else, as if the thing inside that child carried a grudge the child was far too young to hold.
He folded that away behind his quiet, forgettable face. And then, because he was Cassian Voss, he turned it to use.
"Your Majesty." His voice was soft, but the hall had gone so silent that it carried into every corner. "I think the court has just seen, with its own eyes, what kind of blood runs in this house."
He let it sit.
"The boy raised his hand against a royal guard. In your hall. Before your throne. On the very day of his father's judgment." Another small pause, set down exactly where it would do the most work. "We have spent this morning proving the father a danger to the crown. I would be failing in my duty if I did not say out loud what every man here just felt go up his own spine. The danger does not die with Valen Drakhar. It is in the son. I only ask that the boy answer for the hand he raised, the same as any man here would have to."
It was perfect, and Julius understood that it was perfect even with his face against the floor. He had not said one thing a man could argue with. He had said the traitor's son struck a royal guard, which was true, which every eye in the room had watched happen. And around the chamber the great houses picked it up, one after the next, because agreeing cost them nothing and mixed the whole ugly thing away. House Ironfist agreed. House Kaelor agreed. House Arkan agreed. One by one the powerful nodded the boy toward a cell, the same lazy way they had nodded his father toward the Vault, because that was simply which way the wind was blowing, and they all leaned with it.
And Julius, on his knees with Aurelius's hand still flat on his back, understood with a dull, far off horror that he had just put the last nail in his own family's coffin with his own two hands.
Then the air changed again.
It did not come from the throne this time. It came up off the floor, off the big man in chains, like weather rolling over a mountain.
Valen Drakhar had stood through the whole of his own destruction without a sound. He had let them take his name and his land and his honor and his freedom, and given them nothing, because nothing was the price and he had decided long ago to pay it. But the moment the word cell started drifting toward his son, something he had been holding behind his teeth all morning came loose.
His Aura rose. No light. No sound. Only weight, all at once, immense and still climbing, rolling off the chained man like a sky coming down. This was the thing the kingdom had spent ten years pretending it could keep in a box. Unhooded, for the first time, in front of all of them. Lords who had been smirking an hour ago found that their lungs did not want to fill. Two advisors went grey. A goblet tipped off a table and rang on the floor and not one person looked at it. And the iron on Valen's wrists, the special iron forged to hold the most dangerous man on Titania, creaked once in the dead quiet.
The Unbroken Titan raised his head. For the first time all day he did not look at the throne. He looked down the whole length of that hall, straight at Cassian Voss, and when he spoke his voice was not loud. It did not need to be.
"I have given you everything you came here for "My name. My house. My freedom. I am going to walk down into your Vault, and I am going to rot there, and I am not going to say one word about it, because that was the price, and a man pays his price."
The weight in the room climbed another notch. A lesser lord sat down hard.
"But you will hear me now. All of you." His red eyes moved across the four great houses, slow, marking each one in turn like a man counting cattle. "My freedom is the price. My family is not. You put one hand on my wife. You put one hand on my son. And I swear to you, on the last thing this crown has left me, I will not go down into that hole alone. I will take half of this room with me first." A beat. "And every one of you knows that I can." My majesty i have fought wars with you like brothers in arm so if you can not give me justice atleast give me mercy .
Nobody answered him. Not the houses, not the advisors, not the commander. Because there was not one person in that grand hall who can argue , except the KING himself
Ragnar Titanus let the silence run a while. He sat and looked at the man in chains, and at the boy on the floor, and at the slight grey lord who had just handed him a victory and a problem tied together in the same neat bow. He remembered the the time valen fought woth him like brothers and keeping a 11 years old child in prison would only be distasteful feeling .
King ragnar was always calculative , A king of his level would never fear a man of valen level and he was in chain too .
But he ruled his kingdom for 50 years by making smart choices .
He never paid more for something than it was worth .
He had what he came for. His throne was safe now.
After a while King said …
"The boy is a child," and his voice closed over the matter like a hand closing on a coin. "He buried his house this morning. Grief is not treason. He struck a guard. The guard is breathing. The matter ends there."
He did not look at Valen when he said it. He only looked once, in the whole of that long day, looked at Valen.
"The sentence stands. Valen Drakhar to the Black Vault, for the rest of his natural life with chains made of nullstone and His house is dissolved. What is left of his blood is stripped of all rank and title and removed from this city to the border districts, to live there as the crown sees fit to allow."
The border districts. That thin, forgotten march at the far edge of the kingdom, where Titania swept its broken soldiers and fallen names out of sight. Land that answered now of course to House Voss. It was mercy of a kind, the kind that is only the long slow shape of ruin wearing a kinder face.
{Nullstone : when in touch with null stone it blocks the flow of aura}
And down in the dark, under everything, the hole in the door did not close.
The red light was gone. The tiny red cracks went under his skin and disappeared too.
Whatever had happened was over .
The door was opened and this time it was open no cracks but through a hole . His body was absorbing aura just like he he read in books , just like his instructor told him , just like everyone does but right now he had so much going on that he couldn't notice it.
Julius was in shock and deep state of thinking
What will happen now without his father the protector of the family is gone and he will never see his father anymore and it was too much for him to except .
The hall began to breathe again. The danger had passed, the show was over, the falling house had safely fallen. And in the middle of it, quietly, the family came apart.
Julius pushed himself up off the floor. His legs did not want to hold him. He looked at his mother bent over his sister, and for the last time valen was allowed to meet his family
As he took hard and slow steps towards his family with chains all around him he felt heavy that he can not do anything all he could is sacrifice himself to save his family .
They started to take his father away.
Lyra stopped crying the moment she saw him walking toward her.
"Daddy!"
Her small legs took her as fast as they could. She ran in the hall, leaving past nobles and guards, until she crashed into the valen's leg
Like always, she stretched both arms toward him.
"Pick me up."
The words were the same words she had spoken a thousand times before.
Valen's chest felt a pinch pain.
For a second , he could not answer.
Then a sad smile came on his face.
"Sorry, Lyra…"
His voice was weak.
"For the first time… your old man can't."
The little girl blinked.
She did not understand.
Not fully.
She only knew that something was wrong.
And
Tears began to come in her eyes again.
"But… Daddy always picks me up…"
Valen looked away for a second, fighting a battle far harder than any war he had ever fought.
Then, instead of lifting her…
The giant bent.
One knee touched the floor.
Then the other.
An eight foot mountain was bending to meet his daughter
As if the sky was meeting the water.
He opened his arms.
Lyra threw herself into them instant.
Valen wrapped her in an embrace so gentle that nobody in the hall would have believed those same arms had shattered battlefields.
"I love you, little star."
"I love you too, Daddy."
A sob escaped him.
Then another pair of arms wrapped around them.
Elara.
She had run across the hall.
The moment she reached them, she dropped to her knees and pulled both father and daughter into her embrace.
For a few seconds, nobody spoke.
Nobody could.
Then Elara pressed her forehead against his.
"You idiot…" she whispered through tears.
"You promised me we'd grow old together."
Valen smiled weakly.
"I know."
"You don't get to leave me with all the work."
A broken laugh escaped him.
"You were always the stronger one anyway."
Her eyes filled with tears.
"I never wanted to be strong without you."
Valen gently kissed her forehead.
"But you have to."
A few steps away stood Julius.
Frozen.
Watching.
Unable to move.
His mother.
His sister.
His father.
Together.
For the last time.
Valen saw him standing there.
Their eyes met.
No words were needed.
Just a small nod.
And he understood his father was calling for him
Julius broke.
He ran.
Not caring who watched.
Not caring who judged.
He threw himself into his father arms just like his mom and sister was.
The four of them held each other in the center of the hall.Everyone watched
An eight-foot titan kneeling on the stone floor, holding everything he loved.
Valen placed one hand on Julius's head.
His voice was quiet now.
Take care of them."
Julius nodded violently, tears streaming down his face.
I will."
Valen looked toward Elara.
"Take care of yourself and Lyra."
"I'll try," she whispered.
Then his gaze returned to his son.
"There is something else I need you to hear."
Julius looked up.
Valen's eyes were calm.
"I was wrong."
The words stunned him.
"I spent my life believing kindness alone could protect what mattered."
His gaze went toward the throne.
"It can't."
L
A long silence followed.
Then he gripped Julius's shoulder.
"Get stronger."
His voice hardened.
"So strong that nobody can ever force you to bend the way I bent today."
Julius clenched his fists.
"I swear it."
Valen smiled.
That was enough.
The guards approached.
Chains rattled.
Time had finally run out.
Valen slowly stood.
One last look at his wife.
One last look at his daughter
One last look at his son.
Then he turned and walked away.
The chains echoed through the hall.
None of them called out.
Because they all knew.
If they did
They would never be able to let him go.
From the corner of room Aurelius watched all of that and felt a toght pain his chest that he couldn't do anything for hos friend.
While valen was walking away his eyes met with his friend Aurelius and he signaled something with his eyes to which aurelius replied with smile .
It was signal of a friend for a help to look after his family in his absence.
After valen went away and trial was over
Cassian and some family head with him come near julius family and said
"You have your father's eyes," pause. Unhurried. "I hope they serve you better than they served him."
Then he simply stepped around the boy and walked on, into the thinning crowd, toward the ancient seat that had all belonged, until this morning, to the family he had spent ten quiet years taking apart. No threat. No speech. He did not look back. He had said the one thing he came to say, and it had cost him nothing.
It was the most frightening thing anyone said to Julius in the whole of that frightening day.
And standing there, Julius finally understood the lesson the whole day had been built to teach him. That world is very cruel and unfair place and you have to snatch whats yours and you need power for that.
He felt no rage and No hope either, because hope had died that morning in his own chest. What he felt was the cold, settling weight of how the world actually worked, come to stay on his shoulders. And underneath the cold, where the fire had been, something new sat down and made itself at home. It did not burn. It only waited.
*Never again.*
Not revenge but weakness and never again would he sit still in a cheap seat at the back of a room while other people decided what happened to the ones he loved. Never again would he be the boy with no weight in him.
He will fullfill the promise he made with valen.
All he want now is strength.
